Folding@Home Weekly Team News - 10th August 2006

I think the reason i haven't seen that before is my opty normally has both cores folding. So i'll just get a 2nd cilent installed and that should be fine.
Now i've got to see how it clocks... :p

In the continuing faulty/dead hardware saga, my router has had it aswell. Dhcp over wireless has never worked as it should, but its got worse and now its not working over wired either.

Yeah you can't tell normally, I had the same with girlfriends X2.

As for the overclock: Her 3800 is at 2.5ghz @ 1.4v and both cores reach 50°C at full load with an Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro. So theres your target :p should be easy :D

EDIT: Anyone know why my sig isnt working? :( It's one of null's so I can only assume something is broken on his end.
You must have missed the thread about the GUI, or assumed you didn't need to read it. It's partly my fault for making changes to the system that you were already using. Problem is because the 'uid' and 'canvas' settings have changed and are now 'gen_uid' and 'gen_canvas', aswell as the mode switch which should now be 'user' not 'use' (i.e ?mode=user).

The URL in your sig:
Code:
http://fahstat.piggott.me.uk/?mode=use&uid=SiriusB_%5BOcUK%5D&unm_pre=Cruncher%20&unm_x=10&unm_size=11&pts_pre=@%20&pts_x=305&pts_size=11&pts_y=20&avg_en=0&wus_en=0&urnk_pre=is%20ranked%20&urnk_x=200&urnk_size=11&tpts_en=0&twus_y=20&twus_x=370&twus_pre=pts%20%20%20%20%20&twus_size=11&tpts_en=0&&trnk_en=0&canvas=siriusbbg.jpg
New, correct URL:
Code:
http://fahstat.piggott.me.uk/?mode=user&gen_uid=SiriusB_%5BOcUK%5D&unm_pre=Cruncher%20&unm_x=10&unm_size=11&pts_pre=@%20&pts_x=305&pts_size=11&pts_y=20&avg_en=0&wus_en=0&urnk_pre=is%20ranked%20&urnk_x=200&urnk_size=11&tpts_en=0&twus_y=20&twus_x=370&twus_pre=pts%20%20%20%20%20&twus_size=11&tpts_en=0&&trnk_en=0&gen_canvas=siriusbbg.jpg
Working example:

Hope this helps, null :)

Also thanks as usual to Rich for the news :)

Hmm, managed to get my farm at work still processing as home is offline to keep me ticking along, but the 3 laptops don't like doing things quickly.

The news came a wee bit early as I just passed 10k. Oh well, I'll wait until next week to appear in the tiffy-kat section. :D

Get your attention? :p

Not exactly news related but somebody needs to point it out; your sig is waaaay over the limit at 46.19kB! (forum rules state max 20kB) I suggest reducing the quality a bit; 85 seems to work pretty well. New code for you:

Code:
http://fahstat.piggott.me.uk/?mode=user&urnk_font=ARIALNBI.TTF&urnk_pre=no:&urnk_x=241&urnk_y=30&unm_font=ARIALNBI.TTF&unm_pre=&unm_size=30&unm_x=242&pts_font=ARIALNBI.TTF&pts_pre=cr:&pts_x=270&pts_y=30&wus_col=FFBB00&wus_font=ARIALNBI.TTF&wus_pre=wu:&wus_x=349&wus_y=30&tpts_en=0&twus_en=0&trnk_en=0&avg_font=ARIALNBI.TTF&avg_pre=av:&avg_x=314&avg_y=30&gen_uid=lemonman&gen_qual=85&gen_canvas=protein2.jpg

Sorry for the disturbance all but somebody had to say :p

Hope this helps, null :)

Null - yep attention grabed - the gif was 12.8k when it left me - if I remember correctly it was you that jpeg'ed it due to an upload problem :D

Edit: image now Gif@13k but text makes it 43k
off to amend base image with name - hope that helps...

Edit2: null sorry missed the quality variable at 72 now and 13k
massive difference, might up that to 80 or 85 as a bit rough on the text.

Edit3: 80 is happy medium - 14K now - no yellow banner for me :D

Edit4: null please remove gif as swaped back to jpg thanks.
and ok was all my fault, all better now (and learned something too)

Woo hoo!

Nice one null. I knew it wasn't my fault, it worked before I went Germany and I never made any changes :p

Done :)

Indeed I did convert it to a jpg (which is just over the limit at 21kB or so), but when the image is generated the compression defaults to 75 which gives much smaller files. Therefore you must have specifically set quality to 100 causing the oversized output. Anyway it's all fixed now so all's good. :)

Was a good week for me this week but I still think I can get more out of my system.
Should be in the top 100 when my next 2 wu's finish. :D

Thanks for the news rich :)

I'll give it a go. ;)
Using the stock cooler here, but its the heatpipe one from my Opty not the one that came with the X2 3800+. Its currently in the low 40s with the fan on a resistor. I can raise the fan speed a bit and it should perform quite well.

I shall be both annoyed and pleased if it does do 2.5 @ 1.4, annoyed coz my opty won't do that and cost twice the price, pleased because it can fold more. :p

I just bagged a 600 point WU to go with my 535 pointer :D

They should be both finishing on Monday - one hell of a dump there

today I've receved 2124, 2414, 2128, 1862, all with 1-3 days left on them (thats 396, 600, 359 and 535 points repectivly) after having weeks of low point WUs!
maybe this will show dunc a clean pair of heals

Have also got a 2414 after umpteen 99 and 153 pointers :). Hopefully these'll be in abundance too; am fed up of all these itty-bitty WUs that have been so commonplace of late.

I've had a few good pointers of late. and the addition of a xp2 4400 has got me into the top20 on EOC:D I'm sure it won't be for long but I'm enjoying it whilst it lasts!

Hopefully no one will be overtaking me while these big WUs are being crunched. 3 days with no output wont look too good on the stats lol :p

Another slack week from me but I got home on Friday and sorted out the existing farm so that's all running fine and dandy.

Picked up the new laptop on Saturday and got it set up to fold - first 2 Wus downloaded were 600 pointers :D can't wait to see the ppd from them.

I'm in Aberdeen for the weekend but back home tomorrow so I will get the new additions up and running tomorrow or Tuesday - should help the cause a bit.

Thanks, as always, to Rich and welcome to the new foldy person :)

Fold on Team 10

Nice work! What spec is the laptop - Core Duo?

Oh Yes :D It's the Dell XPS M1710 -

- Pentium Duo T2600 2.16Ghz
- 2MB L2 Cache
- 17" WUXGA TrueLife Widescreen Panel (1920x1200)
- 2048MB DDR2 533MHz Memory (2x1024)
- nVidia GeForce Go 7900GTX 512MB GDDR3
- 100GB 5400RPM Hard Drive
- Internal 8x DVD+/-RW Drive
- 56K v.92 Capable Fax Modem
- 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet NIC
- Intel ProWireless 802.11b/g Wireless LAN

Currently running 2 600 pointers at a ppd of 311 per core (X2 3800 at stock is doing 2 as well at only 222 ppd per core).

Rich - The X2 4400 had been switched "not on" by some clown  and the X2 3800 had got a little warm - I knocked it back to stock as I didn't have time to fiddle with it.
I have come back home a day early as I'm not feeling well :( but I'm in no mood to fiddle with PCs tonight so any overclocking and building will have to wait until I feel better.

Stan :)
