Folding@Home Weekly Team News - 14th December 2006

A nice week for me and the team it seems.
Thanks for the news as always and thanks to our top crunchers for their major contributions towards making the team stats look so good. :)

All bright red for the first time ever :D

Im really starting to think mt x1800xt is more trouble at crunching then its worth... everytime i restart it seems to abort whatever unit it is on and when i log out and back in it simply sits there idle. :(

Working on it though, should get 1000 points for next week.

Are you running it as a service or in a window?
If running in a window make sure you close the client by using ctrl+c rather than using the X in the corner.
If running it as a service then yopu could try stopping the service before you restart.

As for the logging out and back in that's normal behaviour as the client needs the desktop to be active (it's a limitation of DirectX so nothing Stanford can do about it I'm afraid). I've had to stop locking my desktop and have instead taken a screenshot of the loacked desktop and set it as my background before hiding the icons and taskbar - seems to have kept the kid fooled anyway :p

Bit of a hijack......

If I get a gpu to crunch on a headless box that I remote into, will it quit crunching when I quit the rdp session?

Dunc
good question - when I use Remote Desktop on my XP machines it seems to stay logged in to the desktop after you quit, though the first time you log in after a reboot you have to wait for the desktop to load
guess it depends how the particular software/OS deals with it

Mmmm orangey-brown. Sort of this colour... ish.

I have noticed my PPD has been steadily climbing the last 24 hours. My mate has his PC on for quite a lot of the day so getting some decent crunching time out of him. He uses it to connect his XBox 360 to t'internet so his PC is on even when he's gaming :D

Brother's machine is a little out of action. He hasn't been spending much time at home the last month or two [new girlfriend  ] so his PC is never on. Going to remedy that.

Also, my older brother is soon to be getting an internet connection so hopefully I can get my old PC running F@H again. No idea when though as "soon" has been his estimate for a while now!
