It just struck me today when I finally got my 325K tiffy and 3 other people have shot past the 300K mark right behind me :eek:

my old socket A machines, especially those with SDRAM, are really on their last legs - from the FahMon benchmarks they'd be better off running deadlineless WU's than the Double Gromacs
it's mad to think that my 4 24/7 machines plus couple of occasional borgs could be replaced with a single dual-core machine with decent WUs :eek:

my raise comes through at the end of this month - also with some backpay - hopefully I'll be able to fend off the impending stompage for a little longer :D

If Don Berserko doesn't mind adding the old HowTo to the TOSAH archives then the information would still be there if anyone needed it without having to clutter up your nice new guide

Also i'm pretty sure most of the information is easily available elsewhere and there's bound to be an even easier solution out there now anyway.

sounds like a plan, just two things I'm sure you were doing anyway...

1. Plenty of links to Joe's post for those who might get scared off by too much detail
2. Remember to untick the "Use Signature" box (though I never thought of this myself :p)
 
well with the link to Joe's guide it just displays that one post - maybe we need a link right at the very top of the main thread

a great team effort guys - it's looking very spangly and packed full of foldy information :)

Well it would be a slight drag but I already edit my signature every week to point to the most recent news post (well usually anyway :p)
The redirect sounds like a great idea though as I could then use that address in my sig and it'd only require the same amount of work as it does already.
I don't have the means for such wizardry myself but if someone would like to set it up and give me the info I'll need then I'm happy to take care of it

Sorry to hear the guide is being a bit of a pain - the restrictions of the forum do make it hard to do what you want sometimes, however they hold the greatest appeal for people who are used to spending time reading here, it also saves any possible trouble of advertising an external site which could cause grief with those up tharrrr :o
