Folding@Home Weekly Team News - 17th January 2008

Plus when a client is sending / reciving a unit I still have 4 going full out and if for any reason a client fails again I still have 4 going... TBH the numbers are ruff 5 is certainly no worse than 4 PPD wise and it gives a bit of a backup should any 1 client fail for whatever reason / take an age to download another unit

Not a bad idea that - I've had some shockingly large uploads with the standard client from time to time (generally down to a shocking over-used network connection though now and then it's a massive results file).

Bit of a mishap last night. Switched off the two WinSMP clients using the correct procedure (CTR+C) so I could play a bit of UT3. Finished killing stuff (I love hearing that "Flawless victory" :D). When I restarted the clients they claimed to have missing work files, dumped the current WUs (both at 25%ish) and started new ones - bloody beta clients ....mutter, grumble, mutter.
I wondered what was going on. I looked at the noon EOC stats and was only about 350 points behind you then you dumped those three WUs to get a bit of a lead back. It'll be interesting to see what happens overnight.....

You actually sneaked ahead briefly until I dumped those three WUs. I'll be dumping another two in the early hours - around 02:00-03:00. I should catch Babyface before you catch me - then we'll see what happens while your output slips over the weekend - maybe you'll catch me, maybe you won't.

I'll get my stuff on Monday morning so won't have any new output until Tuesday lunchtime at the earliest. Should be close but I think you'll edge ahead briefly before I restomp and start pulling away :)

on the subject of hardware I've ditched the old 7300 SE for a 7800 GT OC.
net result 2c rise on the old passive setup and major boost to the eye candy.

Big improvement I would think.

I nearly went for 7300TCs but the EAH2400s were a couple of pounds cheaper - nice and cheap and quiet - ideal for dedicated Folding rigs.

Temps this morning are higher - take at lease 2h to equilibrium.
Currently 52c on the cpu - so that's 10c more (more that I'd like, but still very reasonable)

Don't think I'll add the NB block into the loop untill extra rad is also installed.

So your gonna pass us soon....

Looks like you guys are going a great job there! Be sure & wave as you fly past! :D
