To date, the old PSU took out:

and to think eh......

....it wasn't even a Q-Tec :p

you still have your house (with freshly patched hole in roof) so feel lucky :D
seriously though that's a costly enough failure - i mean 40% done.... I'd have been bloomin' livid ;)

Mr. Berserker, did you ever establish a causal relationship between the power supply's failure and any activity or lack thereof on your part?

Causes might include failed cooling unit, overstress, powersurges, and dog saliva.

Power surges unlikely (the PC is behind a 1500VA UPS).

I don't own a dog.

The rest is possible, but moot, as I've just done a case transplant - the only fan remaining from before the blowup is the CPU fan, and that definitely works.

Various parts of the PC were covered in a layer of dust (there was even some inside the PSU), so could have been that.

Now don't go and to that Rich.

The last thing you want is a hoarde of stat-crazed folders breathing down your neck. If the news is late they end up staying up all night, unable to slep due to the tension of it all. They refresh their browsers every three seconds, hoping that this next time the news thread will be waiting. There are so many of them they have the capability to accidentally DNS attack OcUK. Then everyone will be mad at you for crashing the forums and you'll get parma-banned. Nobody wants that. :)

So if it's OK with you can you publish the news this week. That'll be marvelous :D
