Folding@Home Weekly Team News - 26th April 2007

I've seen many posts bemoaning the instability of the WinSMP client - I have had no problems whatsoever with it, maybe I'm just lucky :p

On another note, the quad is currently working on it's second P2605, getting 3060 ppd at the moment

Good news for team 10 :)

Thank rich - not only is your news post stats-tastic but imho it really helps with team identity, moral and good will (to all folders) :)

2.5x my last months target of 7k - but still getting stomped with a few more hot on my heals
Just goes to show unless your stan your always a slacker :D

Anyway all the P4's here at the farm are now only on when in use - the electric bill per quarter is now back down to mid quad figures, was 14k when I had the whole building on 24/7  so sanity has prevailed, and C2D are so crunch-tastic I can't beleave - as my production is at least 50% higher then ever before, at a fraction of the Watts or computer hours.

In other news this week my son had his first birthday, took his first steps and continues displaying a keen intrest in technology (he loves buttons, switches and LEDs) aka big boys toys :D

Aww, happy birthday to him from me! My Niece is 9 months old and is obsessed with TV remotes and mobile phones.

edit: just seen booyaka's location - gonna get confusing :p

He might do a daily update (you never know) :D

Edit: on the subject of update - Null is their any reason that team position isn't updating when all three other stats are (not that I mind)

I was sooo close to number 1!! God dammit! :(

<--> this close!!! :(

Anyone know how I can set it up so the downtime (about 4 hours a week) I can get two normal WUs using the cores? So thats like another 25 PPD :p

If your running smp in VMware - just run a normal client as well to get the extra 5-8%
VM will take full priority when in use (no slowdown), but you're get 50% when up/down loading to the standard client. Might not finish after 7 days but then again you could get lucky.

Edit: or you could do a stan and run two SMP units native - you do have a 6600 don't you?

Same here. Had it running on four PCs here at one point and the only problems were when I changed an overclock on one PC.

For comparison a stock E6400 runs a 2605 at 1290 ppd.

As ever, thanks to Rich for your efforts.

Bleh, I finally had time to install Feisty Fawn last night and all went well, until I restarted my machine. Some stupid GRUB error! I was hoping to be crunching by now. Longest I have been out of action for I think since joining Team 10

Oh well, I should have time in the morning to try and sort it out. Ta for the new rich.

Yep E6600, running WinSMP, I set WinSMP to low @ 100% then two normal WUs in the background @ Idle, worked up until they started erroring :(

Sirius your epic saga of trying to get f@h working using unix/linux (same thing) is hilarious, its a good job you didnt finish your guide because team production would have fallen dramatically.

:p

I could cry right now, I was just about to finish quite a high point WU, around 900 I think, which for me is almost half my current score lol

Anyway, Vista crashed and when I reloaded F@H, it started a new WU :( 3 days wasted. Does this usually happen?

But it prompted me to get rid of the GUI client and set up 2 console clients on my X2 4400+, currently crunching 2 1169's at 574 each :)

Got rid of the GUI client on my laptop too, with 2 console clients, 2 3040 wu's, only 186 points each :(

But they're going to finish around 2 hours of each other, all 4 of them, so will be a nice amount of points and WU's finished to my name
