Thanks for the news, Rich! :) Now that the faulty PS3s being warranty-replaced and Stelly has a shiny new Q6800 crunching, hopefully Team ms9cw will be contenders for the top slot again next week.

2x standard clients or did you go with the smp client for 3 times more points :D
Either way it's good to have you with us.
your'll have your own stats page a few hours after you upload your first work unit (WU) here just use the name search function to find yourself (but I guess your'll be on page 7 or 8 with standard units)

so did i when i started but then i saw the light!! ;)

There is 3 different clients.

STandard one
Windows SMP
Linux SMP.

In that order they produce generally the most points. I know bugger all about Linux so went with the WinSMP client - it's offically still a beta release so some people have had problems with it but personally it's been fine on my machine. It's not installed as a service (like the standard one) but again doesn;t affect gaming or other computer usage at all.

Check out http://folding.stanford.edu/download.html
and download Windows 2000/XP/Vista
SMP client console version.

Follow instructions and you should be crunching away for loads more points than the standard client.

ask away with any more questions - someone with loads more knowledge will be able to help you if needed!!! ;)

You can install the Linux SMP Client on Windows using VMWare. VMWare allows you to run the Linux OS inside Windows.

Even with the overheads you can expect better PPD from the Linux SMP client than the WinSMP client.

For details and step by step instructions go here:

www.aeternum.co.uk/smp/smp.html

Just follow the guide through and you will come across the VMWare stuff :)
