Folding@Home Weekly Team News - 7th December 2006

Thanks for the news rich - top man as ever
Production down for me too (but still above 7k which is my ongoing target now the farms only working hours)

Home rigs is in the process of a slow power usage efficency drive.
Swaping out the PSU for a Liberty to increase efficency.
Swaping out the 850XT for an old PCI card (if it surports a 21" monitor :D )

new mobo/C2d/x1900 christmas combo on the way - might reserect username shadowscotland and show these single crunchers how it done :D

Absolutely amazed to be back in the 5th top dumpers cell. Most of the borgs are still disabled after a network rebuild. I'm probably at around half strength at the moment.

Nice to see team 10 has got in a stomp, but our output has been worryingly close to the non red less than 75k per day. That needs to stop.

Great news as ever Mr Richnumbers

well, bad week for me. The only wu's i keep seeming to get are 390 ish points and take ages :(

lets hope for better ones this week :)

For the Single Machine Folding League, how are you able to get separate stats for different machines for a single user?

The whole idea is that it's for folders who have but one machine crunching. If you have more than one machine working under the same account you can't participate in the single machine league in Rich's stats. The idea is that many users only have access to one machine and as such have generally lower output than multiple machine team members. In order to give these users more presence in the weekly stats it was decided to form a special section just for usernames bound to one computer. One computer means, essentially, one motherboard. Dual core/processor rigs can apply as can machines using the GPU folding client.

Some people like me who have more than one machine working will come up with a second user name, set up one machine to use it, and enter into the single machine stats just to see how it competes. I'm normally BillytheImpaler(OcUK) but when I want to participate in the single machine stats I'll set a machine to use The_Ohio_Psycho and ask Rich to include me in the stats.

Im happier this week, and hopefully next week my output should be 15000+

Im hoping I can hold my own against the mighty power of Borged by MGP, but its getting harder and harder. That said he has 17 active CPUs compared to my reported 6... dont know where it gets 6 from ive got cpus 8 running and a total of 4 clients... so 6 CPUs seems an odd figure.

Argh no E6300 goodness this week! Mates computer has gone back because something has nerfed. It wasn't me before you look at me like that! I didn't even get a chance to go near it.

I called him today and asked what time was best, and he said the PC has been taken away cos something is broken

Why he didn't consult me first is beyond me. I could have solved it! Knowing him he probably uninstalled Windows or something :p

Looks like I might just get myself a nice Christmas present from F@H.

If my reassimilations do their job, I might just, manage to gate crash your party

Only had my x1800xt running the last 2 days of the week, barely managed 1 WU in that time. So far it looks to be better then my 3000+ venice but not by much.

With any luck it will be better next week when it gets a free run.

Anyone know the PPD to be expected from an x1800xt?

From what I can find they only have 12 pixel shaders as opposed to the 48 of the X1900XT or 36 of the X1900PRO.
I'd expect them to perform similar to the X16xx card which also has 12 pixel shaders and manages a WU about every 1.5 days (so about 220ppd) - maybe a bit better than that if the X1800 is clocked higher

Of course if it's got more than 12 shaders that's all totally wrong :p

edit: just seen another site that suggests 16 pixel shaders on the X1800XT so hopefully you'll be a bit better off
