Folding@Home

one more question, as the units get processed do they get loaded back automatically or is there a manual step where I eed to send something back like used to be the case with Seti where you uploaded your crunched units daily / weekly on the fly etc ?

I tried to use my MSI 7950 Twin frozr but keep getting odd messages about unsupported drivers or the like. Currently running the latest AMD drivers.

I downloaded and followed this:

F@H quick start program - FAH Tracker

If you don't have time to download and configure separate clients, try this folding quick start program.
FAH GPU Tracker V2 automatically downloads the clients and allows you to configure everything from just one application.
This works for CPU or SMP and up to 8 GPU clients.

FAH GPU Tracker V2

but still have no clue how to get it to use my GPU to work also, so looking for some noob pointers on how this is done

Submission of your results, and download of new WUs should all be automated, provided the PC has an active internet connection.

As for the GPU, in theory it should also set up and run automated. In practice, folding and AMD don't play as well as Nvidia. It just seems the project is better optimised for Nvidia. That's not to say you shouldn't fold on AMD, it's just the performance may not be so good.

Have you followed the advice in http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=83&t=21205 and is your GPU whitelisted?

I must be missing something obvious here as I still cant work out how to make the Radeon7950 to fold. In the config screen for the 3.5.4 GPU Tracker v2, I go to the GPU part and enable GPU folding

I then put a tick in the check box next to GPU 0, then i go to the drop down menu and all I see is.

Nvidia G80, Nvidia Femi, ATI R600, ATI R700 and ATI R800

Am i supposed to see my card in there ?

I looked at all the posts on various foums including Stanford and to be honest I still cant work it out. Am i supposed to install another client on top of what I alrady have ?

Ah you are using one of the third party folding things. The OcUK sticky written in 2010 might be outdated. Certainly the GPU tracker website's forum seems effectively dead. From that I deduce that the GPU tracker itself could be a problem.

Have you tried Stanford's own FAHcontrol v7 software which should be current.

ok i ma using FAH COntrol 7 now. It identifes the GPU correctly but the progress bar is stuck on 0% and ETA is unkown, the GPU is doing something though as in GPU-Z the clocks are showing its working and the temp is up to 57 but the load shows 0 ?

have you checked to see if the gpu.text file has your GPU in it?

iirc i had to add mine before it would start to process, i didnt fold for long though as I found it did 6k or something and giving up a cpu core to do this lost me more than that!

got it working, and after reading your post ditched it on the GPU, as it kills PPD like you said because it takes a CPU core to work and the gain is less than the loss.

Time to fire up my old AMD 4600 with GTX8800 :)
