I'm in the process of borgins, but not sure yet if the PCs are working fine at getting past the firewalls and proxys or not. I also want to be able to check up on things in the future, at an easy glance.

I can setup FAHMon to see what stage of completion of WUs the different networked PCS are at. FAHMon will also let me see the logs of individual crunchers. So far so good. But that just tells me what is happenning locally.

What I want to be able to see is which crunchers are actually getting credit from Stanford, and how many WUs they are returning. Boinc allows you to see online when PCs last returned WUs and you can check the results for each PC. Is there any way of doing this on folding?

Only by using a new usename for each one.

i.e.
MGP borg 1
MGP borg 2
MGP borg 3

And of course making a note of which borg is which.

There was something about F@H for boinc, which would be kinda cool though it isn't really nescasary.

I completely understand where your comming from though I too would love to see what computer is producing what credit.

But the idea of MGP borg 1, MGP borg 2 etc would mean me having loads of small stats rather than a chance of catching you lot in the top cells, so thats no good. I plan a bit of a stompfest .....

Can you not just look at the logs in FAHMon? Assuming they're all on the network then you can add them all to FahMon and have a look through all the machines logs each morning/evening/whenever and you can see what time they finished a WU.

Alternatively you could I suppose write a small script that checks the work folder for the client and note the time and date of when a new WU is downloaded [this is assuming there is a way of telling when a new WU has been downloaded :p]

Again, this would be a prefect for the SetiQ-esque proxy server that could cache data about a WU as it passes through. On your network you'd need only one proxy to monitor all FAH communications and WUs. It could even have a client/server structure where you use a SetiSpy/InCrease-esque program to install FAH. It could install itself as a service in Windows and it would maintain periodic contact with the proxy at regular intervals, i.e. every half hour or every checkoint whichever comes first. All stats would be viewable over a web interface so your server could sit remotely and be accessed from anywhere on the network (or anywhere at all if you open up the port to the outside).

I wish I knew how to write networked GUI programs. :(

All getting very technical here, but those links have some interesting suggestions. I'll just have to keep checking the logs in FahMon to see what they say about submissions.

It may be the way my office's network is setup, but borging just isn't straightforward. The hassle I had to get boinc to bypass the ISA proxy still makes me shudder. I think F@H is going to be easier, but still not that easy, just editing each PC service to start using the admin account so it keeps going depsite log offs is time consuming.

System is just a local admin user. It doesn't have rights over the network, whcih operates under Windows Small Business Server 2003 . That means it won't get an internet connection via the office server.

That’s a good point BTI.

Task Manager reports it running as a system service so it doesn't have a user associated?

In the services.msc -> property - > logon page it says Local System account.

Edit: Ah question answered, post too slow :p

Arghh, the office server's lost it's interweb connection, a frequent occurence, so the WU's that would have dumped will be stuck until tommorow when someone reboots it :( In the meantime I still can't tell if I've got the basics setup right or not.

I was having problem installing any DC on our server - also a proxy running Windows Small Business Server 2003 - just re-installed a thread last night - needed the regedit key approach that's in the sticky.

Last time I tryed we lost remote access  (but that might have been a security update) that's now been reconfigured to stactic IP address not machine ID so it should be fine now :o .

(I don't recoment that anyone else does this btw, unless your bosses know your running F@H and have agreed to it)
