Folding Stats Issues Again

I have 2 instances of F@H running as services as detailed in the guide here at OcUK.

I have been folding for just over 24 hours and it seems my stats are not being uploaded, I have restarted the services as detailed in the help pages and still no stats.

Also, under Task Manager my CPU are only running between 52 - 54 % on all cores.

I have tried restarting, followed all the guides and faqs and still nothing. I have even put my Computer into DMz to avoid any firewall issues.

Can anyone help or recommend anything :)

Also the 1 work unit which has been uploaded is from my PS3. I have also used machine ID 8 and 7 for my PC and my PS3 I have no idea what the Machine ID is and from what I can see you cannot change the machine ID on the PS3.

Welcome to the team :)

Install FahMon, right click in the empty white space on the left and add new clients, point it at each Folding instance so you can see the progress so far then press F8 to see the logfiles. Chances are your current WUs haven't finished yet and that's why nothing has been sent in - let us know if there's any error messages.

Unfortunately our sticky guide is a bit out of date, from the sounds of it you have a quad core system and you're running a couple of standard clients on it? It is probably working fine and will not upload anything until it's finished a whole WU - if you wanted to use the whole of your quad (assuming it's a quad) you'd need another 2 standard clients as each can only use 1 core.

Anyway forget all that now - it's silly and you're much better off running the SMP client which will use your dual/quad in the way it's designed, plus the points are much higher. Check out SiriusB's guide - http://smp.aeternum.co.uk/
If you go for the WinSMP client on Vista then you best follow the instructions here

To answer the question about machine IDs: as long as each client on the same machine has a different number then you're fine :)

edit: Sorry that's all probably quite confusing - let us know what direction you're planning on going and we can give more detail

Got the following errors below, hope you can help.

I have now completed as you stated, thanks.
The log shows the following below;

18:15] Reloading Folding1

[06/01/08 - 19:18:29] Reloading Folding2

[06/01/08 - 19:18:32] Updating projects database

I have a green square before the progress on one instance of F@H and a yellow on the other. Does this mean there is a problem or is it just a colour which is allocated to that seperate folding client?

Thanks again

Yellow and green are fine (green means everything is a-ok, and yellow means that its waiting for some info).

Red is a warning that the client may have stopped, but it's very common to get red and a 'Hung' message even when everything is ok. The actual log is by far the best indicator of what is actually happening.

everything now seems to be fine although the points don't seem to be much and still haven't uploaded to the site.

I assume this will upload when complete?

Should I still only be using 2 clients with my quad core and under task manager it only seems to be going to 50% on the CPU load?

Also my folding2 client says an ETA of 13/02/44, what in the hell is that all about? Seems a long time :(

Folding1 is showing an ETA of 22:00 tonight which seems to be accurate.

Yeah it should upload when finished. The log will tell you if the upload was completed and will say 'Thank you for your contribution to Folding@Home' as well as listing the number of uploaded units from that client.

It's upto yourself whether or not to run more clients. Try it and see if it interferes with the usual running of your machine. And keep an eye on your temps ;)

The ETA of the current unit should level out after a few frames. Remember to run the Download New Projects option every so often to keep up-to-date.

That's probably a double GROMACS core which does 50 frames per WU instead of the usual 100 so jumps 2% for each frame and confuses the hell out of Fahmon.

I'm getting it on a p2614 Gromacs 33 unit that has just started on the missus's rig - standard 100 frames but something must be spooking it to think it's taking 49,710 days to complete :p

edit: oh actually it gets stranger than that - it's actually the completed WU being sent, hasn't downloaded a new WU yet but already has an ETA rather than "Finished"

Crikey - that was a big one!

Stats have updated but I have heard that users get more points depending on the performance of there puter, is this true?

Could someone look at my stats and advise me if all looks okay?

Folder - ShaneOsborne

Thanks

Well, yeah. The faster the PC, the faster it completes WUs so the more points you get. The speed of the PC doesn't affect the type of WUs it downloads. As we've already mentioned, you can also get more points by running the SMP client rather than several standard one.

Your stats look fine to me. Five WUs completed so far and it looks like you're running three standard clients.

In Shane's case it was a Double Gromacs 3906 (or three). An astonishing WU that runs at 850PPD* on a stock 820D! I could do with a few more of those on my borgs.

* assuming Fahmon isn't telling porkies, of course.

I think it possibly does that ETA of xx/xx/44 thing when it's uploading a unit - one of my SMP clients was showing it later on when it was being uploaded
