I've always known it's gotten bad in some respects the quality of our food has declined drastically. Look at all the health problems and issues associated with eating a terrible diet.

I remember when I first cut out all sugar, most processed foods (Take aways which i never ate regularly anyway any ready meals, preprepared pizzas etc) and switched over to eating a big plate of veg a day + veg with other meals such as pasta etc some fruits, I also every odd day blend a mix of green veggies kale, spinach and such.

The change in energy levels / focus was insane. It only showed up after a few months though but the difference was huge also my skin got tonnes better and I just looked healthier and more youthful. I don't eat a lot of meat but I eat fish.

I know the UK is different to the USA but I suspect there is some element of similarity in that video.

But if you are interested in health check out the video, it's pretty damned crazy it was made in 2008 so it's recent.

Without watching it, ultimately food has become mass produced, lowest price possible commodities, like almost everything else being produced on tiny margins, quality has gone to crap. The focus for probably 40 years was quantity and cost, not quality of food.

More places are focusing on quality of food now, in terms of organic farming and the idiotically pushed food pyramid that was entirely dedicated to pushing the farming industry, is something people are starting to see through.

Unfortunately in the UK and the states, farming has lobbyists just like any industry, they make corn syrup and put it in everything over there because they want to grow more and sell more. If the governments(here or there) wanted to push new guidelines saying refined carb products were bad and no one should eat them, they'd have huge fights on their hand and lose. If corn syrup was made illegal or something then hundreds of farmers would go bankrupt over night. Trouble with industries like this is change has wide reaching consequences, health is usually a long term one while the short term/immediate consequence is job losses.

Things like ready meals or healthy meals with "reduced fat" usually meant less good fats, more sugar, and were god awful for you. Less sugar and more good fats is generally better. They also due to removing the fats that give the most taste, added buckets of salt, more sugar. Healthy meals in the uk sold by supermarkets, the majority of which generally contribute to an unhealthy diet and they've been pushed for 20+ years.

The state of the food industry, the lack of control over it and the profit focused reason behind advising people what to eat have all led directly to this country becoming fatter and less healthy, same for the USA.

The people telling us what is healthy, are told what is healthy from research which is funded by the guys selling the products the research conveniently tells you is healthy to eat.

Does it have pink slime in it ?

Does it harp on about corn syrup?

IS it overbearingly American?

What are you trying to say here?

Jesus, it's not a concern - just wanted some clarification as you didn't phrase that sentence very well.

I was just confused.

But no I don't do it for any sporting reason/hobby or anything like that. Purely just read diet books, diet properly etc for health benefits. I'm still learning though and scratching the surface i've been pretty strict like the last year or so. Only had the odd treat now n again like bit of chocolate etc. However not chocolate any more because once you have 1 you just want more LOL

Edit: Main initial motivation was because i always had issues with depression, general fatigue stuff like that.

Not interested in the video but this sentence is massively interesting me. Please can you give me more info on your diet, like what's a typical menu for you on any given day?

must be hard getting the 80 grams of protein you need if you aren't eating much meat?

Forgot to mention, I eat mostly fish if anything, eggs and sometimes when I buy it depending on whats what whey protein is something else I've used.

My diet is pretty boring atm, but I went hardcore at it to see what differences it'd make. It varies but for example breakfast i'd have some oats with frozen berries stuff like that, other meals usually i'll cook up plate of veg broccoli, kale, spinach mixed veg peas etc and boil some eggs with it or eat fish with it. Other meals I may have pasta with some fish and canned tomatoes. Eat a decent amount of nuts. I use rice too.

It varies a fair bit but one thing I have to be tough on myself to do is get in a decent amount of veg. I think that is the main thing.

My diet is probably far from potential "perfect" you get a lot of people going mental over paleo cutting grains out etc (I See their point though if you are trying to control your weight or have allergy issues). But to be honest I think as long as you slam your greens and cut out processed stuff you are good to go. I also do it on a fairly strict budget though or i'd probably eat a hell of a lot more interesting dishes.

Toughest part is resisting all the temptation overall I think, i've slipped back in a few times here and there last year.

Edit: If you are looking for ideas of what to eat but completely unsure there is a simple book I used to start off was one of the first I read, called 150 healthiest foods jonny bowden. It's just real simple gives you lots of ideas.

Cheers, I'll check that book out. Respect for the diet, I want to try something similar and I can imagine how difficult it is.

Yeah, food has a lot to answer for. I was over weight, suffering from aches & pains, lethargy, chronic IBS (i.e. not had a decent crap in years!), terrible skin etc.

Went 80% Paleo on the 11th January this year and so far have gone from 15st 9lb to 13st 3lb as of today (5ft 11"). My IBS has cleared up, got great energy, skin a million times better etc.

Like the OP I eat tons of veg, salad, stir fry etc. I do eat meat and fish.

I don't eat any bread or cereals anymore and I feel great. I was a real cereal junkie in the past thinking it was really good for me but it was a major part of my IBS issues. I loved having that sugar hit in the morning so I had to find a replacement so every morning I have banana/sultana omelette with a little bit of honey on top and some flaked almonds. Absolutely delicious!! 1 banana finely chopped to 1 whisked egg mixed together, stir in the sultanas and then fry it in a frying pan.

For lunch I will have avocado, carrot stick, humous, ham, salad etc.

For meals I make my own chicken curry with passata as a base. Steak with sweet potato chips and broccoli. Stir fry. Vegetable stews etc. All quick and easy things.

If I ever go out and have processed stuff it doesn't taste good anymore to be honest.

It feels good to take charge of your eating habits.
