Food processors

I think its the Micro mini chopper that's under £50.

I'm really torn here. All I want is something that I can mix, blend and puree fairly small quantities although from time to time it might be useful to be able to process larger quantities.

Maybe a Micro mini chopper and something like a 3200?

I'm terribly sorry, must have got my links mixed up.

I hate to say it, but you sound like you might get away with a stick blender with a chopper accessory.

Surprising how useful one of those things is.

If you do go Magimix, and you really ought to above Kenwood, the MMC alone might well do you for a while.

Good point - I've got a bamix with a food processor bit that does the job well enough.

Still think you should get a thermomix though, just because they are awesome!

Spie, I was in Peter Jones earlier and they had a 980 on demo. Not a bad machine at all and doesn't look like any corners cut, just a good value all-rounder with a lot of features. Everything felt good quality except the top which was a bit thin, but quite a few machines are like that. Based on what you said about small quanitities, the small blender cup attachment is actually quite big, so the smaller 950 model might suit you better, as the blender cup on that one is very compact and ideal for doing pastes etc.

Bodum have got a new range of stick blenders out with cup attachments which look a lot better than the competition for £50. They look great in a range of colours. You could check those out and get a processor for the bigger stuff.

I've always preferred a hand held blender that you can either put into a saucepan, jug or whatever.

I love to prep my own veg etc. as for me this in some ways is where most of the enjoyment of cooking comes from, if that makes any sense...

The girlfriends parents have that model of Kenwood food processor and personally I didn't find it very good.

It seemed to have a lot of trouble with food getting stuck in the bottom cm of the bowl and I was constantly taking the lid off and manually mixing it all up, which seemed a bit pointless.

I also attempted to use it to make breadcrumbs and I couldn't seem to get it to chop them small enough.

The inbuilt scales on their model also failed relatively quickly.

All in all it seemed an inferior product to my 1970's Chef with blender attachment.

Did this ever reach a conclusion?

Started looking for something to take the ache out of baking, and whilst first port of call would be a chef I'm looking for something a little more flexible that'll allow me to blend/smoothie make/process too.

How good are the food processors with dough attachments? Much as I'd like to believe the spiel I can't help but imagine very angry Kenwoods marching across the work top to the floor bound oblivion in noisy fashion!

I've ordered a Magimix Micro mini-chopper. Collecting it at the weekend. I'll see how I get on with that first.

Food processors run too fast to do dough properly; they just chop it up and fling it around. You really need a Kitchenaid stand mixer if you want a machine to do it, or use an electric hand mixer with dough hooks like I do :)

Ah OK, I don't think I'm ready to commit that much money to my bread just yet. :D

Got a link to the hand mixer setup you're running? Looking at the images on Google, they don't look manly enough to do it but given your bread... I'm guessing they do!
