Food to cook when you can't eat?

First off sorry for the weird thread :p

I'm apparently ill with oesophagitis (not a medical thread, I went to a doctor before OcUK, please don't lock this thread, et cetera), and as a result eating and drinking are now considerably painful experiences, though drinking less so.

I have medication to help me deal with the illness but I've not found anything to deal with the pain and since I don't really fancy eating nothing but soup for the next two or three weeks, I was wondering what ideas the collective mind of the forum can come up with.

The food needs to be:
- Tasty (obvious)
- Easy (I live in halls, the kitchen we have isn't exactly Heston Blumenthal standard)
- Most importantly, pain-free to eat. "Harder" foods like pork chops and steak aren't great, even if I cut them into tiny cubes like you would for a six year old. Even biscuits are a no go: they crumble and then you get millions of little bits scraping the oesophagus :(
Essentially anything liquid or mashed will work, I guess, unless there are better ideas?

I will be forever indebted to whoever provides me with nice food ideas :)
 
That's a tough one and tbh at the moment I can't think of much, other than.

Stuff your face with homemade milkshakes as you aren't eating, you shouldn't put on weight.

Mash with lots of gravy.

Maybe a wet risotto, but maybe even that would be to much by the sounds of it.
 
Noodles, pasta, rice, mashed potato, soups, bread soaked in gravy or soup with crusts off perhaps for u, meat wise get cassarole steak and stick it in some water for a few hours in the oven on slow and it will be so soft and flakey i think will help.

Maybe also

Rice pudding, yoghurt, jacket potato with lots of butter, strawberries and cream?

Ouch mate, that sounds like a complete bummer. Sorry to hear.

In your shoes I'd suck it up and make do with soup, or buy a blender and make your own soups/baby food.

Veg would be easy, albeit overcooked to within an inch of it's life. Do you eat fish, if so cod in butter sauce would be a good shout. It's very soft out of the bag, and works incredibly well with mashed potato.

(Good excuse for lots of ice cream too btw).

Protein shake, vitamin suppliments, soup with slightly overcooked rice in it (softer) may make things a bit more filling.

My bosses wife was told that red meat, pineapple and bread were to be avoided if you have difficulty chewing/swallowing.

What about mild curry but just split apart meat well.
 
Bung some sausages and onion in a casserole and serve with smooth, creamy mash. The gravy will dilute the mash further and the sausages will cook really soft and should slip down easy.

Is anyone else turned on right now? Good. Me neither.

Sorry for the bump, but I wanted to say thank you very much for the suggestions! If anyone is interested (or gets this quite frankly rubbish illness), get yourself some of those covent garden soup cartons if like me, you don't have a blender to make your own. Some of those are incredibly tasty and very smooth. They do cost a couple quid per carton, but you won't be eating anything so your food budget can handle it :)

As randal24 suggested, ice cream is also a great idea. Vanilla is my personal favourite, I was using it early on when I was literally only eating soup just so I had the feeling of eating some sort of solid food (even if it only was ice cream :p)

Quit the fizzy drinks and also, sadly, quit the orange juice! (too much acid, bah) :( Bought some nice fresh apple&mango juice. Slightly more expensive (not quite tropicana prices but still pretty pricey) but again, since you're not eating anything your food budget won't notice it too badly.

Win. Milkshakes were awesome. When they're nice and cold (not too cold mind you) they're also soothing.
The mash was a good idea, but not on day one. About a week in mash was pretty much my only non-soup meal :)

Had this recently (I'd almost full healed by then) and just wanted to say it tasted awesome. I don't think I'd have been able to handle it any earlier though, but I'm glad you suggested it!

Had a Korma which was very tasty, but again had to wait about a week before I could tackle it, and even then I didn't finish it (tried to eat too much of the meat early on in the meal and started to feel heartburn coming on, what a tool). The rice was great though, nice idea!
 
If your budget allowed it, I would suggest a juice (e.g. Magimix) that would allow you to juice vegetables and fruit to drink. It wouldn't be as good as eating but you'd still get most of the nutrients.
 
Macaroni cheese, mince and onion, fish pie, oeuf en cocquot (baked egg).

Baked egg is nothing more than breaking an egg into a greased ramakin dish, salt and pepper, chop up some bacon or ham, a small amount of tinned sweetcorn, double cream, grated cheese on top then into a hot oven for 20 mins or so. If doing in microwave first, pierce egg to avoid redecorating the microwave. Finish off under the grill. Nice with some sweet chilli sauce on.
