For a desktop PC what wireless card best?

Both are good, however I would lean towards USB, just for pure ease of use and ability to stick it in any other machine with ease.
This may help ? Basically if you want to switch from machine to machine then USB, you also have the option of locating the dongle in a more signal friendly location with the use of a usb extension lead. With PCI you have the benefit of being able to add a bigger antenna. It's all down to what you actually need.
