For new riders looking for a cheap helmet.

I bought one of these:http://sharp.direct.gov.uk/testsratings/duchinni-d701 for my CBT for £50 from a reputable online retailer.
I broke two rules according to many (which do make sense!)
1. Bought online
2. Bought a cheap helmet

Guess I was lucky because the fit is perfect and my instructors couldn't believe how cheap it was given the strength and weight.

The helmet was recommended in Bike magazine in their budget guide.

Glad to see my HJC IS17 getting a 5 star rating.

Great helmet, nice a cool which was one of my main priorities as I'm a hot person (if I do say so myself...)

I see a lot of people around London with open face helmets. As far as I'm concerned, if you come off at 70 you're pretty unlikely to land on your face but if you did....

There was a picture doing the rounds of a bloke that had come off wearing a P*** pot. He'd hit his chin. Which split his jaw open and his tongue was just hanging.

Not nice at all

EDIT: Found it

Google. "open face helmets, i just don't get it!" Perth street bikes Post number 31 click the spoiler. Best not to be eating

Can't believe that cheap one, the inside looked like normal packing polystyrene as well!

I didn't think you were allowed to sell helmets over here that haven't passed British safety ratings, so should be pretty safe buying a cheaper one from a reputable dealer.

But I'd never go really cheap now. I had a £50 BOX for my CBF, upgraded to a £350 Shoei and would never go back. Granted if there was a much cheaper helmet and it scored highly in terms of noise, comfortable etc. then I'd consider it.

Regarding the stickers...

I was told by my local bike shop that some unscrupulous sellers can and do buy the stickers and stick them on everything.

It's a case of "Buyer Beware", do your research before making a purchase.
