When you read the title, did you think I was trying to sell an actual 360, or just the box for one?

I've acquired an xbox 360 box, it's useless to me and I want to Ebay it. I'll be completely honest in the description but if someone misinterprets it and pays over the odds for an empty box, that's their problem.

What Would GDesus Do?

lol, you fell for it on ebay, didnt you?!

by the way, WWGDD is my new signature...like it/lump it :p

Cheeky barstewards.
In truth, I swapped for an old laptop case that could hold the 360 nicely. It's got a couple of tears but is excellent other than that.

There's no intention to scam here, I'll make it clear im selling a box, there will be no pictures or description of the console itself and the title will be exactly what it is on this thread. Buy it now will be a whopping £170.

Well as long as you are honest. If you don't want an xbox 360 box and someone else does (why would they  ) then you have every right to sell it to them. But by honest I mean you should make it VERY clear that it's just the box. Big capital letters in the description and the title saying that it does not include an xbox 360.

But will you actually do that or are you just hoping to con some poor unfortunate guy out of his money?

As for that title I find that core-system bit misleading and distracting, drawing attention away from the all important box keyword.

Capitalise the word box.

The Core and Posh systems have different boxes, therefore it's essential.

I'm not hoping to con anyone, but I wont lose any sleep if I do.

What he really wants is lots of people to reply "yeah do it, its their problem if they pay over the odds for just a box, screw em" so that he feels justified about listing it and taking the money.

Not so, really. The reasons for the thread are twofold. 1) It was a test run for the auction title. 2) I desperately wanted to use the "What Would GDesus Do?", line.

How's about this auction.
That's very interesting. I notice it was pre-release which would explain the outrageous winning bid. The guy couldn't make it any clearer it was a home-made box he was selling.

its theft, whichever way you try and parcel it up in technical terms

Does theft mean something else on your planet or have you misread my intentions?

Jumpingmedic said:
Ok then include that, I thought that was irrelevant data. But empahsise the word BOX. It's easy to ensure you don't con anyone. Capital letters all over the joint saying that it is a box not a console.

...snip...

I appreciate what you're saying, part of my reason for doing this is simply because I can, but I don't feel I'm preying on anybody and I'm not looking for any justification from the posters here, quite the opposite. I was given the box and my sense of mischief immediately kicked in. I'd like to see how obvious I could make it that it was a box, and see if anyone still bid large amounts. I wasn't planning on making it as obvious as the link Borris posted, so that's changed things.

well, without wanting to sound like a brown nose, i've dealt with Tru in the MM here, and the last word i would use to describe him is deceptive. the only criticism i have is setting the BIN price so high. realistically, the bidding will never go to that. i VERY much doubt that any foul-play is intended here.
Indeed, the BIN comment was just a bit of devilment on my part, it was something to get the holier-than-thou brigade frothing at the mouth.

If there is no deception, why is he asked about how people read the title - why is he trying to craft his impression?

I wonder what sort of financial or moral difficulty would lead a person to do such a thing...
Oh please. You of all people should understand the art of using a post to provoke a reaction.

isnt that trolling?
LOL!

Less talk, more action, Tru.

Write a revised Title and Description for us all to look at then.

How about you convene a quick think-tank and brainstorm a title and description for me? If you lot can agree on the details, I'll use it in an auction.

Nice U-Turn, but anyone with half a brain knows what your real intentions were before you made this thread.
I've not made any u-turn, I've already stated exactly what my intentions were by posting this thread, they haven't changed.

Title: Microsoft Xbox360 Core BOX ONLY auction. (haunted)

Description : This auction is for an Xbox 360 Core package box. The box does not contain an xbox 360 in any way/shape/form and should only be considered as a piece of cardboard that used to house an xbox360. it is said to be haunted with the ghost of its previous resident, and holds magical powers. the owner will incur +1 agility and cloaking powers. Not suitable for children under 5/people with cat allergies.

Now this I like. Although I'm not sure if claiming it's haunted (afaik it's not, I've had it about a month and there's been no notable increase in paranormal activity) is morally bankrupt or not?

Basically you are trying to scam people. no one would buy or have use for just the box. Putting a Buy It Now price of £170 is just going to make people think they are getting an actual 360.

What category are you putting this into?

Boxes or XBox 360 I wonder?

Hopefully some Keyboard Warrior will ruin your auction with fake bids and lose you the listing fees.

I think Xbox accessories is more accurate than both of those.

Fair enough, you have made it very clear that it's just an empty box!
However a moral/decent person would still (should the empty box go for a ridiculous amount of money) contact the buyer and make 100% sure that they are aware they are actually going to get an empty cardboard box and NOTHING else. Karma's a biatch ;)
Glad you approve. :)

Now, about that other empty box scammer you busted, I can't remember it, was it a while ago?

Which member on here uses the ebay id pink_puppy_power?

Your excuse that 'the dog ate my last box' is pretty funny.

And stupid/intellectually challenged/mentally disabled..etc deserve to lose lots of money because ??????

We had this discussion last time.....

Pardon me for being a Websleuth™ but I can't find any evidence of you sticking up for your intellectually challenged bretheren. You're either making it up or are using a new/different account. I'll happily retract this if I'm wrong.

ebay have pulled the auction.. I reported it earlier and I'm sure I wasn't the only one :)

Sorry Ms Poppins, but it was pulled because I said the lucky idiot could pay with cash. It will be re-listed shortly.

Borris said:
Could they claim that you misrepresented the item, should it not prove haunted?

I hope not, and I'm willing to take it to the highest court in the land should they try it.

dirtydog said:
So is the bidder someone you know (perhaps your second account) or are you really going to sell an empty box for £70?
Not that's any of your business, but I've contacted the buyer to ensure he knows what he's bought. I've grown tired of your persistant cantankery.

Bah, I missed out on the last one (£1.04 bid) now this one's gone before I even get a chance, will I ever own an Xbox box? :(
Ah sorry mate, if I get another one, you're the first in line. :)
