Heres my spec and setup. Is there anything obviously wrong with it

X2 3800+ 2.2ghz
2gb ram
x800 pro Cats 7.3
Wireless network, connected to a router (2mbps cable)

Theres a problem specfic to this game alone.

I can't run a res higher than 1024 otherwise the pc slows to jerk when you get shocked, and I get constant disconections usually with 30 seconds of joining a server. Seems to happen randomly. I haven't changed anything and it stops working.

BTW

I've manually updated punkbuster, disabled VOIP and set core affinity to 1 core.

Nothing seems to definitively fix it!

any ideas?

better gfx.

WTF does that have to do with the disconnections?

IT runs on max settings at 1024 and that least of my problems atm as the damn thing won't even connect.

NForce motherboard?

I don't know wether it was ever proven that NForce didn't like BF or not, but I know a bunch of people with the exact same problem, all on similar mobos.

My flatmate had this problem, I tried to fix it for months, eventually it just stopped doing it. I've tried to remember what I did, but I don't remember doing anything significant when it stopped. Try turning in game VOIP off for starters. EDIT: Sorry just re read your post

why post it in ** spec then. whats your ping, are you on wireless ?

Pings are perfectly low, Its not kicking me for that for sure, On a good server I get about 30ms easily. This is cable connection after all.

Not a nforce motherboard, This is a Asrock 939 dual sata.

it will be wireless mate. i used to run the net and play red alert over the net fine on my netgear wireless, as soon as i played black hawk down it would boot me from the net (56k at the time)

You may have to play with port forwarding perhaps?

Also, I don't mean to patronise you but run thorough virus and spyware checks now. That fixed connection issues with me two machines before I got to this one.

This only happens with one game so the wireless cannot be at fault.

I have played BF2 numerous times on it fine. But sometime it just doesn't work.

Disconnects ins excatly 30 seconds i reckon. I've just tried 2 servers.

I have AVG installed and its up to date.

OK now its refusing to connect to absolutely any server now.

I also got a a random error which says i've been teamkillings and now i've been banned. Never even played on this server before.

Meh,

Just tried a random server and it worked.

I guess there are some thing you are just not meant to know,

I'd love to help you, but to be perfectly honest I don't even think you should try to fix it. If BF2 were a woman she would be a goddess kicking you in the nuts with katana clogs.

I've given up on BF2, EA can shove it up there A**! - So many bugs and connection issues.

I'm playing Wolfenstien: Enemy Territory (great fun and its free!) while waiting for ET:Quake Wars.

BF2 is mostly fine, EA just refuse to care about it anymore, they think that people will automatically just give in and buy BF2142. BF2 was a massive success much more than 2142 thats for sure, and now they have just dropped a unique game, they could have made even more money on it if they at least kept patching it with decent patches.

Connection errors is a strange bug even if it isn't your connection, computer you can still get it. Try change servers, I once had it a lot on one server but I just changed servers then I didn't get it.

Exactly.

BF2142 is cheaper than BF2 in some shops!

Absolutely spot on. Wireless and BF2 do not mix at all. I tried for quite some time to get a stable connection in game over wireless and it was just not happen at all. Switched back over to a cable in the end and haven't had the problem since.

There's lots of people on these forums who have done the same thing.

Unfortunately not an option for everyone but it seems to be working tonight.
