I see it as a fine line, start up a movie/album you enjoy, productivity goes out the window?

What does everyone do?

music = productivity up
movies = productivity down
TV shows that i've seen tons of times = productivity about the same.

Music = massive productivity boost for me. Movies tend to destroy my productivity. I often stick on TV show like survival stuff on the side which is a mild boost to productivity overall but helps to keep my mind focused on the main task.

I can play a movie or something in the background, but only if its something I have watched before numerous times. 80s back catalogue, LOTR or BsG.
Arnie films are good. Can get a lot of coding done while listening to conan the barbarian,predator, total recall or running man as the soundtracks are great.

Music wise I find something I am not going to need to interact with and fire it up in another tab.
At the moment when I am coding its either a random 2 hr new wave retro remix on youtube or the CCP-EvE soundrack on soundcloud. The production, sound quality and style of the EvE soundtrack make it great background music and it just goes on and on and on for hours.

Assorted music mostly but there's quite a few podcasts and also audiobooks from Audible that I'll listen to. Depends what I'm doing at any time.

Can have movies or tv shows when the system is running a simulation or calculations. But I tend to go with another system for a few minutes of game time. Most recently.... SNES. :D

Podcasts for me, I'm subscribed to a few so there's usually a new one daily, outside of that I'm quite enjoying working in silence whereas before I'd need music to stop my mind wandering. The biggest boost in productivity for me was getting a laptop and working away from the gaming PC, sometimes I'll drive to a car park on the coast and work there for a few hours or in the local costa.

Rain storms

I concentrate so much better with an hour long rain storm in the background. Much better than nothing at all, and much much better than music or anything distracting

Any kind of video playing and you might as well take my potential productivity out back and shoot it, it starts as "oh if something interesting happens I'll look at the other monitor" and quickly turns into just me watching it. Thusly Brain.fm is my pick. Probably a psychosomatic effect and I could use any kind of white noise but it works for me.

I'd just stick to music tbh.. TV shows, films and pod casts require your attention (unless they're just background noise or you're doing something incredibly mundane for your work related task)

Absolute 80s, Planet Rock or there's one I've just discovered called Flower Power radio. I flick between them.

If I'm working from home then just day time TV .... something that just gives some background noise but can be ignored and muted if necessary. Normally BBC1 in the mornings and Pick in the afternoons.

If I put music on then by default I'll then have to turn it off as I'll suddenly need to be in calls and I find movies are too distracting.

Music which is usually

-Chicane
-Deadmau5

I use headphones because I am conscious that it impacts my wife etc and my children with their homework.
