Ok so when I press the lock button on my Mk2 mondeo keyfob the car locks, simple enough. Then if I press the lock button again, it makes the same sound from all the door locks, as if its locking it again, but this time the indicators flash...

What is it doing when it locks "again" and why do the indicators flash? Please don't say RTFM because I can't find it. :o

Deadlocks and alarm if fitted.

Oooh all this time I didn't know I had an alarm! So whatss the difference between deadlocks and just normally locking it?

You can't open the door from the inside with deadlocks (stops people smashing your window to open the door). You may not have an alarm, my Ford does this double lock, but I don't have an alarm, but the 3rd poster did.

This came up in a recent thread (either here or on MEG). When the deadlock is engaged they slightly change the alarm mode as well. With the deadlock on the ultrasound alarm is turned off and the alarm will only go on if the door is opened.

So - normal locking, if ultrasound sensors are disturbed or if the doors are opened then the alarm goes off.

Deadlocking, ultrasound sensors off. The alarm only goes off if you force the doors, which a thief won't do as he will just break the window and steal your stereo.

Stupid design but there you go. The only justification I can think of is to allow parents to lock their children in the car knowing that they can't get out. And don't say childlocks, as any child could climb into the front seat to get out.

Try it, open one of the windows, (or sit in the car) lock it once. you can still open the car from inside. Lock it twice, and you can not open the doors from inside :)
