Hi guys,
Want to see if this is a common problem! Basically was driving to work today and the engine transmission light on the dash was flashing. It would flash for 20 seconds, then be off for between 5 seconds and 2 or 3 minutes, then flash again for 20 seconds, or maybe just once or twice, and again - a big pause.

Does it sound like a problem or a sensor issue? I'm obviously going to take it in, but just wondering whether to bus it to work tomorrow or drive it. Manual says dont drive, but if it was a sensor problem - i cant see the harm of another 25 miles?

According to the Focus handbook, a steady light indicates a minor problem, a flashing light usually means something more serious..

Mine comes on for a day or so and goes off again, almost positive it is a loose wire on the lambda sensor as it is located it a poor place, right under the engine with no sheilding, so easy to knock if you go over anything high...

Is it worth killing the trans when you could have got the bus?

If so, go for it :)
Not what i was getting at :p Basically as its pretty random rather than a flash / flicker which you would expect if i was getting a bad reading, thought that might point towards a dodgy sensor or maybe a well known issue!

Drove back from work and other than an extra flicker when I switched on (obviously all lights come on at the turn of the key), it didnt come on once. Looked under the bonnet and everything looks normal (i.e. no spatters of oil etc) and there was no fluid where the car had been parked.

Booked it in for a diagnostics anyways - just hate it when results arent consistant!
