Ford Focus KeyFob problem

Hey guys, in urgent need of some help, My brother has a 1,6 2000 Ford Focus, he has just got some new KeyFob keys, he can pair them with the Immobilser etc but when we try and pair them to the central locking (the 4 time turn of the key etc...) we get no beeps. was told by an auto sparkie that it could need reseting, to do so he said somthing about some cables to remove or static be removed...
Not much help i know.... Thus my reason for posting.

could try pulling the negative off the battery for a few hours see if that resets it all
