I'm going to post this again because I think it was missed...

Using an application called Torque on your phone, coupled with an ELM 327 Bluetooth dongle will probably give you the information you're after, as well as information as to whether the car is running rich or lean, again, helping you adjust your driving style for optimal fuel economy.

Thanks for that, it sounds interesting. How does a phone access the information on instant mpg ?
The thing is I don`t actually have blue tooth or even a tablet. My mobile is the most basic one you could imagine it hasn`t even got a camera, which is somewhat ironic in view of the fact I was the first person I know to have a mobile (though that was purely for my business) !
