Ford Focus RS

Mine was built in July 16 and I haven't had to put any oil in yet, (5.5K since oil change) but then i ran it in properly, not everyone does/did.
I did have to have the transfer box oil seal replaced, the Kuga has suffered similar issues, same box.
The engine issues are cracked block between a couple of cylinders, not gaskets etc, they are a result of the block.
The ride is less "crashy" than a Fiesta ST, which before the ST200 revision was certainly a bit too much I agree.
I've done 3 hour drives and seats are very comfortable, I have the optional shell seats.
I'll double check if people have got Ford to agree to extend the warranty, officially it's before 1st reg only (which the dealer didn't tell me about)

Nasher sounds like you just have an axe to grind against the car or Ford.

I had to get the 5 year extended warranty on my focus ST before 1st reg.....
So the RS focus should be the same..
When can I buy?
Ford Protect Extended Warranty Plans can be purchased any time up until the vehicle’s first date of registration.

Still doubt there's much chance, guy got it after picking up the car a week earlier, mine is over 6 months, I've asked over on the RSOC (the official one ;)

There's at least two bright blue RS knocking around Haverfordwest. One has a big exhaust on it. Pops and bangs a lot. When I was thinking of buying I had to go to Cardiff as Days didn't have one and didn't know if they would get one in. I guess they would be able to service it and deal with any issues.

Yes but look at the other fast Ford models, there are no real "common" problems with the engine. My Fiesta ST and Focus ST were bombproof. If you google it you will struggle to find anyone with serious problems (except for a few cracked liners on the mk2 Focus ST).

Lots of people are having problems with the mk3 RS :/

Many owners I know who got there cars for the original £33-35k sold them on 12 months later at around 35-36k, so zero depreciation on a brand new car. Even now dealers are buying cars back for ease and offering 28-32k dependent on dealer and spec.

No 5.0 engines have failed either, only one UK car to my knowledge had the oil cooler fail internally which led to water in oil, as such engine replaced though still running. The only issues have mainly being 2.3's popping, though I don't think their has being any real Mustang issues on UK cars as its de-tuned more. But there was certainly a lot of 2.3l failures in the US at first.

But the 5.0's are very strong motors, some are running 1000 horses on completely stock internals, crazy and like driving a ticking bomb, but some people like life on the edge. :D

The 5.0 is pretty much the same as the 5.0 in the F150 which has been around since 2011. it's had a tune and a few different parts but it's been around for 6 years in its various guises and is fit into hundreds of thousands/millions of vehicles, which is probably why it's so reliable. :D

Thanks for all the comments, it's really got me thinking now. Pity Mitsubishi stopped making the Evo, that was always an easy choice for me buying a new one every couple of years and I wanted the RS to be the same but I'm having my doubts already.

I'm going to have to decide in the next month or so :(

Yeah a neighbour of my mate has one in Merlins Bridge, I passed it tonight and was half tempted to tap on the door and question him about it :)

Have you driven one yet? .... get a dealer to take one out for an hour.... you should go round in circles on the road not reading crap on forums ;)

Readings other forums today, amazing how some people don't run an engine in, various RS owners claiming they were hitting the limiter and doing launches within the first few hundred miles..... because the dealer didn't tell them too.

Yeah I drove one last year, it was OK, it wasn't as good as the Evos but imo not a lot is, but it was better than the Civic Type R that I also tried at the time. But of course that was a test drive and not a live with it car over a longer period.

I don't like BMWs, Audis etc and the Focus is closer to the type of car I like driving (unless I could justify the cost of a Nissan GTR) but theres certainly quite a lot of them around now and I guess I'm just having second thoughts.

I think people who don't run in engines are probably those who have never had a car that needed it, it's a killer doing it but has to be done!

If you go for one budget on a grand for the Mountune 375 remap kit, makes it drive much better, more even and greater low and mid torque. Gives it the sort of performance it should have, plus is Ford warranty approved.
There's an estimated 6500, may be up to 8k up from the 4500 planned and close on 20k world wide. Which is still relatively low, just don't get a common nitrous blue one lol
Why not buy a second hand evo, if that's what you like?
