Hi there

Quick question.

I know somebody who has bought a Ford Focus 2002 1.6 LX. The owner says he has done the timing belt but had no evidence for that in the service book. The timing belt is a Gates Micro-VXF 6PK1893 EPDM. Is there a way of telling by the make that this is the replacement belt? This appears to be an OEM belt and is not a Motorcraft part which I think was used on the Ford Focus 1.6 LX Petrol.

Thanks

Michael

This is what I told him but he was hoping that based on the brand of the belt you would be able to tell if that is the original ford part or the new belt. If he can't get an answer then I agree he should get it changed.

Thanks

Michael

Thats not a timing belt, but a serpantine belt, it is 6 ribs wide and 1893mm long, it runs the aircon and alternator.

other companies like QBR would have the part listed as QBR61893

Ah...never knew that. I will tell him to get it changed and stop messing about.

Isn't the 2002 plate 1.6 Ford Focus petrol timing belt change 10 years or 100,000 miles? It is the Zetec SE engine.

Thanks

Michael

that is also true, mainly because iirc it is not an interference engine. if it fails, you just swap the timing kit and carry on without having to replace bent valves and/or the cylinder head.

for example the 16v ecotecs on vauxhall on the other hand are notorious for the extensive damage they cause if the belt snaps.
