My wifes car finally broke at the weekend and we are looking at a cheap replacement.

She wants a small car and £2500 max she will only use it for a max of 5K a year and it will only be town driving.

we have seen a X reg Ford KA with 31K for £2500. It looks very good inside and out. Going for a test drive this afternoon.

Anyone got or had one of these and what do you think re value etc.

Good fun little car. Love it or loathe it styling wise and late 90's 'quirky' ford interior with acres of plastic are the only real downsides. Not sure on value but i do know the body coloured bumpers command a premium as the standard black platic is prone to sun bleaching big time. Before anyone suggests a bigger car i can say from experience that around town it's nice and easy to park and motorway cruising is fine if you realise that 68mph is its natural cruise speed. :)

same here if i was looking at a smallish car with small engine it would be something like the fiasta 1.25 zetec the yamaha engine in it is a peach and loves abus, also nice interior, air con etc etc if you want it.

Around town, the Ka is great, its easy to drive and park.

The other option (as mentioned) is the 1.25 Fiesta, which feels a bit more solid IMO.

I drove my moms Ka once, that was enough, would never drive one again, horrible handling on corners...

Like being at sea !!!!

I've driven one recently, handle like a go-kart so it feels like your doing 60 when you are actually doing 30 :p

Shame about the tappety POS 1.3 under the bonnet :(

Ok is all that can be said about the Ka.
Sparse trim wind up windows,Noisy under powered engine. Useful only as a shopping basket as they turn on a sixpence.
The only thing i like about them is the little clock in the dash. :p
There is lots better out there for 2500 quid.

One I drove had leccy windows, leather seats, aircon, ABS, cd-player etc. Which I thought was ok for a little shopping trolly!

all I have to add is that after seeing what had happened to a KA in a rear shunt I certainly wouldn't want to have children in the back.

I personally think ther are horrific manifestations of something that is trying to be a car.

Get the fiesta, its an all round MUCH better package.

wow was not expecting as many negative comments.

Will treat the test drive with care then.

One think not going in my favour in this decision is the comment that the KA looks "cute". I will have to work on that.

Excellent but i bet it wasn't 2500 quid though. Odviously my comments where on the one i drove which by the sounds of it was a Bobby Basic. :D

Nope £1800 as it happens :)

And yea, I wouldn't own one. But for a girl I think they are alright cars, just a shame they didn't put the 1.25 in them instead of the crappy 1.3.

I just keep thinking what else you could get for 2500 or even 1800 quid.
Trouble with getting cars for woman though or anyone else for that matter is you have to get want they want.
The classic line is " I don't want it "
Why ?
" Its Green i don't want a green car " :p

Aye the 1.3 pushrod engine sucks , noisy as anything needs tappets doing every 3rd sunday to stop sounding like a tractor and make about as much power as one of my farts after a mild korma.

Hmm, a few years back, I had a KA as a courtesy car when my old 318i was damaged, I recall spending the afternoon wanging it around like a hooligan, I loved it and the car really reminded me of an old sorted Mini!

Easy to park, an ideal motor for 'er indoors. :) *

* Much as I liked the KA, I had the luxury of it being not mine, and I knew it was going back! :D

/sweeping over generalisation

Obviously there will be a lot of bad comments on here mate, unless its a mondeo or some super car people generally think its crap...

/off

:p but seriously i've had mine for over a year and it has been good fun to drive and all round reliable. Obviously doesn't compare to much more expensive vehicles for power, handling, and well pretty much anything... but still. However mines a P reg and before i bought it it had a full reg vardy service and i only paid a total of £1500 so perhaps for the money your talking have a look elsewhere. Oh and group 2 insurance though depending on the age of your Mrs that may not count for much. very true about the bumpers too mine are greyer than my grans hair...

Why you would want a KA over something like this i will never know --->
