my lights have gone a bit funny on my Ka. When i Brake my right indicator comes on too. I dont think it is flashing, its just glows orange. and when i am actually indicating right, and still holding the brake at the same time the indicator seems to be flashing much faster. now im not sure if this is linked or just a coincidence but the right (i think) brake light isnt coming on now either.

does anyone know what could be the problem and how easy it will be too fix? and any costs involved too.

Thanks in advance

Could be a bare wire somewhere.
Problems with water ingress into the rear light cluster causing bad connections to the brake bulb?

The wife had a problem with her Ka indicators on the front right, removed connections and sprayed them with WD40, then smeared them with vaseline and the problem was resolved.:)
Sorry can't be of much help.

thanks guys just been out checking the lights and when i indicate left the left brake light flashes aswell as the indicator. is it something that can be fixed myself (or rather by the boyfriend) or should i take it to a garage?

Get stuck in, have the light off (access is available from inside the boot I beleive), and look for anything that could be bridging the brake light wire and indicator wire.

Check that all the bulbs are working correctly. I had an astra once where the lights would do weird things if one of the bulbs was blown.

thanks. think i'll get the boyfriend on it when he gets bk from work. he was going to do my new speakers anyway so he might aswell do this at the same time

I had a similar problem on mine a few years ago, everytime I pressed the foot brake down the headlights would turn off. Luckily it was under warranty back then so took it in and they sorted out...I believe it was something to do with the alternator but it was a long time ago.

arghhh im stumped. i got some advice off a KA forum and have done EVERYTHING they suggested to do TWICE and nothing has changed. im getting really wound up now. i want to go out but instead im stuck here.

Does this mean im going to have to take it to a garage to look at? ive checked all my bulbs and cleaned up the earth wire and checked all the casing, im going mad with boredom here lol.

All the garage will do is the same things you can do yourself.

Lighting circuits on Fords are famous for being bad, it WILL be a bad earth somewhere casuing things to short together. Try it for a 3rd time and see about adding an extra earth to the light cluster.
