Ford Mustang GT (4.6l) S197

I've had the lower control arms and it has made things better, but still not great. Aside from that I think most of the suspension is stock so that will almost certainly be the issue. The tyres still have plenty of tread left (4mm-5mm) and are (iirc) Falken FK453.

Now that I'm use to the car I never spin the wheels or lose the back without meaning to. It just means when it's wet / damp I limit myself to driving very carefully, in the dry I feel fine to use full throttle etc... but in the wet I'll never really go above half throttle. The back end out at 10mph in 2nd gear is something like a small roundabout and always easy to control once it does start.

Spending money on the suspension has crossed my mind, but every time I price it all up I remember that I'm still going to be massively annoyed by the interior quality and the 'old' feel to the car so I then look a 2010/2011 V8's and then I end back deciding to do nothing.

Falken FK453.

I dare-say that is your problem. Not exactly the sort of tyres I'd want to put on a Mustang!

From a quick look online I can see that they have pretty bad reviews, and several people have actually recommended the cheap Falken ZE914's I have on my Corolla, instead of the FK453 :p

They are supposedly not as good as the mid-range Falkens I have on my Corolla... :p

I'll need to double check, they are Falkens and the set that came with the car. I remember taking a quick look when I got it and thought they came out s half decent so might not be 453's.

From looking at your pictures they are ZE912's, which are the predecessors to the ones I bought for my car. I think some new tyres might do the world of good, if they are on 4MM it probably won't be too long until you'll need a new set anyway so may as well use up the rest of the tread. :)

ZE914's are half the price of something like a GoodYear Eagle F1A2 or a Michelin Pilot Sport 2 :D

There is a big gap in the market currently, you basically have the following;

£10k - V6
£12k-£15k - 2005-2007 V8
£15k-£20k - 2008-2010 V8
£20k-£25k - 2011-2014 V8
£25k-£40k - the odd rare special, Shelby, no miles garage queen car or dreamer
£40k - new model

The new V8 is only £35k (with a 9 month wait)

Agreed!

Though I tried F1AS2 on my Mustang and the car simply did not get along with them, it felt rather terrible in all honesty to the point after 1000 miles I removed them.

But a decent wet tyre like Advan V105 or Michelin Pilot Sport 4 would do you a world of good!

Then to further improve traction in the rear you should consider following:
- Billet lower control arms
- Panhard adjustable bar in the rear
- Upper adjustable control arm/mount goes on top of differential

The above with tyres would solve your problems.

Then if you want to improve the overall handling of the car look at something like Tokico adjustable dampers, lowering springs and larger front and rear anti-roll bars.

You could probably get it all done for around £2000 including the tyres and would improve the handling a lot and give you the extra grip in the wet you are after.

Unfortunately the interior not so much you can do with that, I was lucky I had a Saleen but even then it was nowhere near as good as the interior in the S550, it really is in a different league, but had to be if Ford wanted a global success.

Love these cars, yours looks great man. I am leaving the US to return home in 6 weeks. I am seriously considering shipping my 06 Mustang GT back. Sooooo much fun to drive.

Don't mean to derail - here is mine parked on my mates drive. It was lowered when I got it. Insanely low, probably too much so.
