Ford S-Max

Yes we we need the capacity to have 7 seats, not all the time but just occasionally.

Already got the mondeo haha :)

Ah, gotcha, didn't realise the 7 seat was a requirement.

S max is one of the only cars that can fit 3 small kids in the back in their seats. A mondeo isn’t wide enough

Smax is only 7.9cm wider in rear hip width, didn't think it would make that much difference. Never had an issue with all three in the back of mine, but then I've never subscribed to the "they must stay in a highback until they leave home" fashion that seem prevalent now either :p

It’s the law now :(

What is?

The law amendment introduced in March related to manufacturers (i.e. new to market seats), not parents actually using seats (pre-existing laws still apply).

Manufacturers can now only make booster cushions approved as group 3. This won’t affect any existing booster cushions in group 2 and you’ll still be able to use them.

Child’s weight................Group...............Seats
15kg to 25kg....................2......................Rear- or forward-facing child car seat (high-backed booster seat or booster cushion) using a seat belt, harness or safety shield
22kg to 36kg....................3......................Rear- or forward-facing child car seat (high-backed booster seat or booster cushion) using a seat belt, harness or safety shield

You can still buy old stock group 2 seats - I bought one recently to use in my Westfield as a high back just wont fit.

It's only for my 8 year old, my 10 and 11 year old don't need boosters anymore.

Its worse when you have 2 in boosters and 1 in a group 0/1 seat, getting your hands in to do the belts makes you regret the decision not get snipped after child one:D:D

Most MPV's struggle with the 3 at the back test, I found the Grand Picasso, and Honda CRV decent for space as they had 3 individual seats. I ended up with a XC60.

Makes you wonder how parents with 3 kids and a Corsa cope.

Where from?

All over the place, e.g. Asda

Currently booster cushions fall under the Group 2/3 car seat category, meaning they can be used from around 4-years-old. The new extension recommends children use backless boosters once they are 125cm or taller, which is roughly about 7-years-old.

Manufacturers will no longer make boosters cushions for smaller children, only the backless boosters for kids over 125cm tall.

It’s also worth noting that this change will apply to new products, not child restraint systems which are already in use and meet existing safety standards.
