Forefront AV

I'm still trying to install this, just realised that it needs to be sql standard not express.

Christ my job is a joke, I get half a day to learn and install a product not to mention answer the phone + any emails that come through.

I say... forefront is crap and way too complicated for what it is, stick with something that has its own internal database and doesnt integrate with WSUS.

I looked at it for us to replace Sophos on around 12k desktops. It needed a hell of a lot of work up front, about £25k of hardware and a lot of ongoing overhead. We decided to stay with our current supplier.

^^good choice, unfortunately I get it dictated to me what I have to install, I wish I was an I.T manager :(

Had forefront in for a few months now, bit tricky to set up, but the footprint is tiny for the desktops and works a treat, not had any problems with the servers either.

Do you have any good guides to follow, I've managed to get it all installed but I cant for the life of me see how to install the client on the peoples machines and all the technet documentation is just as bloated as the software :/

From what I remember, (and I didn't do it!)there are several Group policies that need creating firstly.

You would then create groups within Operation Managers console, there is a Forefront section in there, then add computers into them, making sure they are in OU's that have a GPO on it that points Windows update to the WSUS server.

Best to set up a test computer/groups etc.

Ask any microsoft worker what AV they run.

They will not say forefront ! MS themselves Run Trend.

Forefront everyone sees as a freebie thats bundled with an enterprise agreement but i bet they factor it into the cost.

it just didnt do everything our current AV can do so even tho im licensed to use it i dont.

Well it's in, my god what a pain!

...and now I have users shouting at me because their pc's are running dog slow, thanks microsoft for making my life that little bit harder.
