I know some of you peeps are very knowledgeable about this stuff.

I am going to Las Vegas next month. What would I be best doing

1) Withdraw dollars from a cash machine in Vegas using my HSBC Visa debit card.

2) Get dollars before I go from my bank

3) Take money with me and exchange it into dollars in Las Vegas

4) Get a pre-paid Mastercard cash passport debit card

First thing is to post on your most used social media site if anyone has any knocking about they want to exchange.

What sort of amount are you looking to bring.

No.

No.

5) Apply for a fee free credit card which doesn't charge anything more than a trivially tiny interest charge and withdraw cash and pay for items using that. ie, Halifax Clarity

Yes, do that.

On my last trip to the US I took $10 with me.

^this is optimum, exchanging at the mid price with a friend who has some dollars

after that there is a credit card like the clarity card and specialist FX places(useful if you want a large amount of cash to gamble with above daily withdrawal limits - though if you're in that situation and it is a serious amount then you'd probably get a multi-currency account and have a few other options to exchange currency and wire it across to the US - either to the casino cage or a US bank account)

yes, to add take out large amounts at a time as the US ATM charges are per transaction and not a percentage
