Foreign Trucks

Light me enlighten you to a few myth's

First of all foreign trucks that run a red light/speed cam get added to the anpr database, that means they will get a pull, owner and drivers are liable to Prosecution or impound unless the fine is paid.

All foreign trucks must abide with all EU laws re driving , theres no getting out of it

If you have an accident with one its the same as having any other accident just leave it to your insurance company .

Assuming they run into that ultra rare beastie - a traffic cop! - I average 350 - 400miles per night & rarely ,if ever, see a marked traffic car.

My experience tells me otherwise.

True enough.

Edit - Who do you work for Swissy?

A lot of people forget the old "If you can't see my mirrors, i can't see you" thing, either.

Its bad enough for me, i drive all over site at work in my FLT, and at 15mph they struggle to see me and almost wipe me out daily, that counts for UK drivers too.

Ok, so you get the odd numpty who doesnt know what they are doing, but a high percentage of these drivers are actually very good at what they do, its the other vehicle thats usually the one to be the cause of an accident. As said above, you just need to give them the respect/space they require. Driving up behind one is not going to do FA, they probably can't see you for a start.

Oh they see you Phil, its just that they don't like you. ;):p:D:D:D

I've both been run onto the hard shoulder and forced by a tailgating lorry through a speed camera (in mway roadworks) at too high a speed, and it's a pretty frightening experience,

Hmm, I question him forcing you through @ high speed, had you slowed up a bit & kept to the left lane, I'd assume ,logically, the cretin would overtake you?

I completely agree an HGV in your rear mirror can be scary, and tailgating in any vehicle is wrong.

If you read the bit "A MISUNDERSTANDING" you will see a bit about an accident one of our trucks had and what £16 can do to a company :p
Read that again, the english translation is infact, garbage. Multiple spelling and grammar mistakes, and that £16.000 is actually £16,000 (Sixteen THOUSAND Pounds).

ANPR has trouble if the number plate spacing on a UK plate is not right, so i'm suprised it can read foreign plates!

with reference to the OP, he may have been in the trucks blind spot when the truck pulled out.. but it doesnt mean the driver has done nothing wrong. If a car enters a blindspot on my car, i know it is there - and look out for appearing out of the blind spot again.

as someone else said, its just a case of crap drivers not being aware of their surroundings.

I think you'll find that's not quite the case with a 53ft artic, never mind a left hooker. ;)

If the drivers looking forward when a car (or, whatever) enters his blind spot, when he subsequently checks his mirrors, nothings there and he assumes he's safe to go.

Not saying what he does is right, just saying that's what tends to happen.

i know.. which to me says the driver isn't concentrating enough on what he is doing - therefore is at fault. not the fault of the person that just happens to get in his way!

And so, cars will continue to get side swiped by artics........ :(
