Forest Sack Billy Davies

I personally don't rate him that highly. Forest played some decent football, but like most of his teams were awful away from home.

I think Davies perhaps pushed his luck behind the scenes (and perhaps to the media) far too many times about transfer policy etc. I'm shocked and a bit annoyed about it really as I thought he'd earnt that one more crack of the whip. He even got on my **** though with the moaning and negativity.

Good luck to him though - he kept us safe his first season and the 09/10 season was some of the best footie I've seen Forest play since the days of Bohinen, Roy etc.

I hope that a lot of the missed opportunities (re: transfers) materialise to be Davies' fault rather than the board because for 2 seasons we've gone without a decent left-back and some serious lack of cover across the park. I'm sure we'll soon find out.

Very unsure on 'Schteve' Mclaren. The general feeling is one of negativity so far. It's got the smell of Platt about it!

Surprising really, if this had been a week ago I'd be less alarmed but the signs were he was going to see out his contract, dunno what changed.

Davies has rode his luck and although the Chairman brushed off the friction as part of working with a 'winner' there was definitely more to it than that. He's quite obviously got big problems with our 'transfer panel' or certain people on it, lots of fans berate the panel but if you look at some of the dross Davies was allowed to sign at Derby and has indeed signed at Forest, this is more than reason for the panel, especially when you consider how badly we were stung in the past by manager bringing in absolute overpriced rubbsh. David Mcgoldrick for £1m? Did not justify his pricetag at any point in Davie's tenure and that's a 1/6th nearly of the money Billy has spent on transfer fees.
David Pleat actually got us our best signing, Chris Gunter, arguably the best right back in the league. Paul Mckenna was a great billy signing and the squad has absorbed his experience and knowledge like a sponge but there isn't much left in him now.

Our chairman seemed to be finally fed up with how stubborn a man Davies is, the best example I can show you is that of George Boyd who was not a player Billy particularly wanted to bring in, in objection to this Billy hardly played Boyd.

Juries out on McClaren but his record is actually very good and I'm optimistic, we weren't going to get promoted this year with Davies in charge anyway. The time is right.

I think they will find out next season just how good Davies is.

Derby did.

Yeah, worried about this. But as I say, Davies signed some absolute crap when they went up.

Been playing Poker with loads of Forest fans this afternoon, the news came through that BD had gone and I started making jokes re McLaren getting the job, the NFFC fans were dismissive of my **** taking but as things developed they were getting more and more suicidal :p

Well his club record is pretty great, he won the dutch league with Twente and did some great work at Boro. We will see!

Haha yes, well I think there is more reason to be optimistic than not, if you look at some of the things players who played under him for england and boro are saying on twitter, Phil Neville and Michael Owen to name two, the future should hopefully be bright. He needs to be backed though, fingers crossed, I think Davies had taken us as far as he could and the place needed change.

He'll do well at Forest I think, obviously had a few bad managerial spells, England and Wolfsburg but I think every manager does at times. A lot of players rate him very highly as a coach and what he did at Twente can not go over looked.

Looking forward to what he brings back to English football, seems to have learnt a lot on his travels and hope he's a better coach for it.

Wolfsburg wasn't anything too special but England was a disaster, shouldn't have gotten the job in the first place.

Platt - Pratt :p

D'oh!

I spoke to a brother of the coaching staff at Forest today. He said he got a call from Ned and was quite shocked about it all (Davies' sacking) apparently.

I'm willing to give McClaren a chance, obviously. He's a "big name" I suppose.

Extremly disapointed to see billy leave us.

I still believe he's been the best we've had since frank clark.

There were shortcommings to the balance of the squad, and certainly with what we had up front, but at the end of the day the fella didn't do an awfull lot wrong, while getting a heck of a lot right.

There's definately a lot thats gone on we don't know for now, i guess over time billy will have his say.

End of the day though, the guy will go on to better things im sure, forest will go on... give the new man his chance.

What i will say though, if it fails, that the chairman sticks with the club sink or swim, because at the end of the day we were more than stable punching high up the league with no more right to be there over 3/4's of the teams in the championship.

Personaly though id have knocked up ajax for bryan roy, he's done well with the youth and ajax 2... once smart guy with a deep insight in to the game, class act.
