During the reset password procedure i'm asked "What did customer support last reset your passphrase to?"

I have no idea what they mean by passphrase, unless they mean password which would be ****ing stupid. Can someone shed some light on this please?

Their support articles are about as useful as a chocolate teapot when things don't immedately work

I haven't done this myself, but I think if you have details of a game that you have tied to your Steam account, and proof of purchase of that game, you can get things reset that way. Might be worth exploring if you have no other options!

Yeah it's the secret question, one I didn't set however. How am I supposed to remember some random thing that I received in an email years ago? (no, I don't have the mail they sent).

I'm still not even sure what they mean by passphrase :(

Makhaira is right, I once had a compromised account recovered by sending in my HL2 cd key. I logged in and found somebody completely altered my friends list and changed my name/location, and played some 13 hours of HL2. :o

It's the question they use if you didn't reset your secret question after a password reset. Only way to get password reset is to log a support ticket, if you have verified your email address getting it changed wont be a problem, but can take 2/3 days to get a response.

This looks promising, thanks for the replies folks. Support ticket logged :D

Yeah they send you a code with the password request email if I remember correct, after you request one through Steam Support.

Last time I didn't need it though.
