forgotten excel password

Hi all,

My little brother has an excel 2007 .xlsx spreadsheet he needs for college, however the idiot has forgotten the password that opens it.

It's 4 months of data on hikes and climbing etc so we really need it back.

Had a google and some people suggest renaming it to a zip file and doing some stuff, but it doesn't unzip anyway.

Any software that can help?

You could try using Lophtcrack, that might help you out.

If it's a secure password you are effectively screwed im afraid.

If there's a chance your brother is dumb and used a dictionary word or something small like < 6 character lower case letters you might have a chance.

Elmcomsoft have one of the best Office crackers that ive come across, http://www.elcomsoft.com/aopr.html. It offers lots of fancy features, but ultimately relies on fairly poor passwords and lots of computation power.

I'm pretty sure L0phtcrack doesn't do office files.
