Format before or after?

Im going to be getting a new motherboard soon, (current one borked) and i was wondering is there a preference on formatting the hard drive before i install the new motherboard or after,

or does it not really matter, i only have windows on the hard drive, but i have all the old chipset drivers on from the current motherboard?

the hdd is in 5partitions, one being a partition just for windows (6Gb-ish)

all other partitions are clean.

I dont think it really matters if you just formatting but its recommended you do a clean install after you installed your new motherboard getting rid of any traces of the old motherboard software.
