format c

You can put the XP disk in and boot from it, within there you can go through a prompt to format your hard drive and reinstall Windows. It's fairly straight forward if you read whats on the screen. It will wipe all your data off and load up a blank XP format, just a tip, when you choose what to format your partition as pick NTFS (Quick) or you will be there for ages.

/edit You will need your key code for the install as well.

No problem, just make sure that you've got everything you need off of it. Also if its an XP Home CD make sure you have an XP Home keycode, Pro and Home use different disks. Best of luck.

There are a few ways to do this, depending on how the disk is partitioned. If you have more than one partition you'll need to use the XP CD (or W2K) to delete it as Poolybit says. If there's just one partition then FDISK from a DOS boot diskette should be able to remove it. If you don't have one then a rummage on www.bootdisk.com will get you one.

You can download SP2 from the M$ website (it will also come down via Windows Updates eventually). If you can wait a few months M$ should be able to deliver one directly to your house.

And yes, you will need the drivers for your PC but some might be picked up depending on what hardware you have (even more might be picked up under SP2)

If you are having problems with the drivers, look at the manufacturer and model of your motherboard and go to that site. Should be able to download the needed drivers there.

Anything "odd" you have left in Device Manager, post back here and we may be able to help.

SP2 and all other updates... just leave the PC hooked into broadband and kick the Windoze Updates into gear. Visit the site using the links, ideally choose the Microsoft Update option, and then just walk away and leave it. Will need to return three or four times to the updates site until there is nothing left to download. ;)
