Do you need to format PC or have bios at default settings if updating bios on motherboard?. Thanks.

No. Copy the latest bios to a usb stick, reset with the usb stick still inserted, go into your motherboard settings and navigate to the update menu (maybe at this stage read your motherboard manual on updating the bios) and run the update. It takes about 20 seconds or so to run (but I've not had to do it for years so might be different now).
