Was wondering if anyone here has had this problem:

A good while ago I was running 2x160GB Samsung F1's in RAID0. After I upgraded to 2x1TB, the array was formatted and left blank. After a few weeks I removed them from the case, but I forgot to break the array first.

Now I want to use one of these disks again, however, windows cannot initialise it, thinking it's part of a RAID (and twice it's size!). I've tried a format with zeros, and still the same problem. Has anybody and advice on how to completely reset the drive? There's no data to speak of, so go nuts!

p.s. the machine that originally ran the raid is long since reconfigured, so no hope of plugging back in. Or would that actually work?

As rpstewart said, it'll probably tell you in the BIOS. You may have to put both drives back in and break the array through the BIOS/RAID management.

The BIOS read it as a single disk (well, on that mobo anyway!)

Got home and hunted out the other disk (the first is still in work) and loaded it up with the same mobo that created the array (ASUS P5Q), saw the disk, saw the array was bust, and was quite happy to un-raid it :) None of the windows tools I tried could do it.

Lesson learned: Break your RAID before storage! Cheers guys!
