Wondering if i could get some advice.

Going to sell a acer one netbook as the mrs don't use it anymore she uses her ipad2

Anyway obviously before selling the best thing to do would be to format the drive to remove details etc now the problem we have is that didn't come with the xp cd and I assume you had to run the backup function to get that... We didn't.

So basically is there a way to wipe the drive so that it would still be usable after sale for someone to install their own copy of windows on there?

I don't need windows on there personally just want data wiped so we can sell it.

Cheers

You could try UBCD (Ultimate Boot CD), have a very quick look and it seems to mention you can run it from a usb stick.

There is a good chance there is a hidden partition on the harddrive you can use to reinstall from. This option lets you have a copy of windows on the laptop making it much more saleable imo.

A quick google suggests that it is normally accessed via alt + f10 at startup.

Edit: Should point out this option will either format the drive or at least delete the files. If you are super worried you will need to 0 fill using something like Dban.

So will DBan wipe everything and leave the HDD blank, for then someone who purchases to install whatever OS they like?

I dont want to sell the netbook with an OS installed, but would like the HDD in a state that they can do it themselves.

It might be less sellable, but I mean ill probably only look for 80-100 tops anyway for it.

Yep, DBan will wipe it completely, leaving it blank for them to install whatever OS they like.
