formating harddrive

hi i originaly had 2 partitions on my 500gig drive xp/vista,i've decided to go full vista and was wanting to join the to partitions,the problem is that the vista disc will not let me join the 2 partitions,so i was going to use my xp disc to join and format the hdd.My question? Is there a way i can totaly wipe and format the hdd without useing the windows disks.

I would keep the partions and add more because if Vista ever went down all you data is saved.

Sticking to one partion is asking for trouble.
Thats unless you have another HD for your downloads.

have 2 external and one internal hdd for all my downloads files etc all my main drive is for is games and video processing,so space is what i need...
