formating

hiya
i added an ide hhd to my system and it was of an otherc omputer so i formated it then when in to disk mamagement and delted the boot partion of the hdd drive then then is said it needs formating when i clicked on the icon in my computer and when i format it, it say wibdows cannot complete this format

make sure the disk is not failing at all! Use the manufacturers tool to check for any defects and you should find that there is an option to format as well.

It might be worth a go with DBAN to be sure that the disk's partition tables are fully cleared before trying to reformat it. Boot from the DBAN disk after unplugging all hard disks you do not want to nuke and run it for a few minutes. You needn't overwrite the whole disk with random 0s ans 1s as you just need to run long enough to nuke the partition tables.
