Formatting laptop HDD

Ultimate Boot CD offers tools to format but if all you want to do is format then something like FDisk will probably do just as well (albeit there are limits on the size of disk it can cope with still I believe). One question though, what are you going to do once you've wiped it? Windows would allow you to wipe the disk as part of the install process, I'm guessing Linux will probably allow much the same.

Thanks for the reply. The disk I want to wipe is a new one (upgrade). I installed windows on it from the recovery disk I made when the PC was new, but now I can't seem to access my emails. I was told I should have cloned the old disk, which I didn't do. I want to wipe it and start again.
