Hello,

I have an SSD with Windows 10 and a 1TB storage drive.
This afternoon I read a quick guide on how to format my 1TB storage drive, it was very brief. I followed the instructions and now my PC wont boot up. I was trying to wipe the information off it not really understanding what I was doing, I just assumed it would be very simple.

I get the following message "THE USER PROFILE SERVICE SERVICE FAILED THE SIGN IN USER PROFILE CANNOT BE LOADED".

There has been a couple of occasions where it has loaded my desktop up and all I see is a black screen and a windows taskbar flickering, I cannot interact with it and I can't use my PC.

I would appreciate any help/information since it's hard to google a problem that I don't understand.

Thanks

/Sigh

Sounds like you had your Windows user folder set to the 1TB drive as it's location (instead of the default C:\Users) Does that ring any bells?

Although I am surprised. Normally in that scenario you just get logged on with a temporary profile.

When you installed Windows did you have the SSD and the 1TB drive connected?

sometimes windows will store the MBR on the HDD instead of the SSD and when you formatted the 1TB drive you took this along with it.

When you install windows always disconnect every drive except the drive you want windows installing on.

I would try and run a repair, Disconnect the HDD and leave the SSD connected. boot the PC up and keep pressing F8, go to troubleshoot and try the startup repair

Except if it was the MBR it wouldn't even boot to Windows (which this is doing). instead it would say the OS wasn't found during POST

Hi

Thanks for the replies.

When I last re-installed Windows 10 I had both ssd/hdd plugged into my PC.

I have tried unplugging the HDD and pressing F8 to run a repair, but I get the same error message "THE USER PROFILE SERVICE SERVICE FAILED THE SIGN IN USER PROFILE CANNOT BE LOADED".
Only with the HDD drive plugged in has my PC been able to boot up to Windows (though nothing responds on whilst on my Desktop, just a black flickering screen with the windows taskbar)
