Forum notifications and emails

I've tried various settings in the profile settings, but it seems I'm not clever enough to switch off the email notifications and still have the little bell notification (top right) in the forum.

I know when starting a new thread I can select an option, but how can I do this on threads I reply to, or apply as a global setting?

Can anyone help me with this, I'm feeling like what I'm sure my dad used to feel (old)

After some more testing I am still either

• getting the little red number on the bell AND an email,
• or no notifications at all.

I can't find the right settings that just give me the red number on the bell without getting an email.

I'll sneak in on those and point out that sometimes I don't get the alerts for replies or reactions to my posts. Can't see any consistency to it

It's weirdly comforting to know someone else has issues, simply so I know I'm not being 100% stupid.

If you’ve replied to a thread and thus are subscribed/watching: go to the top right, click ‘unwatch’, then ‘watch’ and it should come up with a box asking if you want to subscribe AND receive email notification or just subscribe.

This is what I do, and I get the bell notification but no emails (in chrome)

It's hit and miss for me. I sometimes get emails to threads I am watching or posting in, but usually they don't come through until I go back into the thread, then I get a glut of emails again. Notifications don't always appear either on first load of the forum. But I just put it down to running blocking software, addons, and security stuff possibly interfering.

indeed, that's exactly what I use, but alas you guys have issues so there must be a discrepancy somewhere, maybe in the KAC region

I'm obviously being mildly facetious because there could well be an issue with the forums, however, I hope that not to be the case!

One thing to note about email notifications is you only get one per visit to a thread. So if you get an email with an update about a thread and don't visit that thread, notifications are then stopped until you do visit that thread again.

That is the intended behaviour to stop ridiculous amounts of spam being sent out.
