Pretty sure last year was the first year that it hasn't been closed, there was a link to Spie's page about it though. The year before it was closed for half the day, and then I think going back further maybe it was all day?

Ironically, that very day on September 11th I'd just received my first ever order from OCUK and I was getting advice on the forums as to how to put it together, when the first thread about something hitting the WTC popped up.

I don’t think it could harm anyone in having the forums closed and remembering all those who have lost their lives in such tragic circumstances. To include wars, natural disasters and other terrorist attacks etc.

But surely we can remember them without closing the forum? It doesn't quite have the same effect as a minutes silence so seems a bit pointless to me

So why not close for the whole day - 11th November? which is far more important to Britain than 9/11...

Also did Spie actually know anyone who lost their life in 9/11?

It is because that's what the Americans called it, so now if you say 11/9 people will think "what on Earth is he on about" whereas they will know straight away with 9/11 :p

See I still do the "what happened on the 9th of November?" thing when I read that without any buildup, it takes me a couple of minutes to work out it's the american way...

What really annoys me is the way people now say 7/7. Why? One it's such an american thing to do and it's not like we do the same for every IRA bombing is it...

Oh wait, that's because it was those evil muslim extremists.. not the friendly Irish and Americans...

was gonna say abaout 7/7, more important to UK, though less devastating than 9/11 in the grand scale of things. Either way, i don't recall the forums closing for 7/7. I don't think the forums will close today though, maybe on the 10th anniversary now.
