Just watching the Chinese Grand Prix, and heard this on the team radio from Lewis Hamilton's pit crew:

"So, standard in-lap procedures. Yellow G7 and pick up debris"

Wondered if anyone knew what it means?

This probably belongs in motors..

Pick up debris refers to picking up bits of rubber and things on the tyres in order to increase the weight of the car a bit so it'll pass parc ferme weight checks. Yellow G7, not sure, probably a computer setting to cool the engine down a bit?

The cars have to weight a certain amount so the driver conserves fuel and picks up the rubber marbles off the track on the cars tyres to increase the weight.

Pick up debris means to drive over the off-line parts of the track where all the sheds of rubber (a.k.a. marbles) are. They just stick to the tyres... It's like how two bits of bluetac will immediately stick together. Increases the weight of the car to help get them past scrutineering after the race.

Yellow G7... not sure. Probably telling him which engine map to use.

They often use fairly cryptic language given that it's broadcast so not sure about the 'Yellow G7'.
Picking up debris means that he is to go off the normal racing line to order to pickup the rubber marbles that fall off the tyres during race conditions. This adds weight to the car ensuring that the car comes in overweight to ensure ensure regulations are met.

McLaren and Ferrari scramble/encrypt their radio transmissions during the race. McLaren often unlock it when they win. :D

Yeah, especially as he will be using this engine next race, so they need to preserve it.
He had quite a lead so he could have turned the revs down near the end anyway. :)
