Thought it would be nice to have a Clean thread on Specific Racing & Tuning set ups for Forza 3 now it's been out long enough to have a good idea of whats what.

1.
My Tip would be to Switch the Clutch/Handbrake buttons in the controller options & drive with a Clutch as this will shave a Second a lap off your times Immediately & more once you have your head around it. With the A button as clutch you can just roll onto it with your thumb as you select your gear.
The difference this has made to my times is unreal, Last night I placed six hundred & summit  Where as before I have been down around the 2-3k mark. I can't remember where/what/how though as I was so messed up & just went on for more racing. :o I do know I was top of my friends list for the First time though.

2.
Always use the Weight reduction option, remember Power to weight ratio. ;)

3.
Pumping the brakes when using ABS helps turn in No end. :)

4.
Brake before entering a corner.

5.
Sliding round a corner may look bad ass, but is very slow.

6.
Don't bury the throttle off the start line or you'll just wheelspin and set off slower, match your revs to what the computer is revving to when the race is starting.

7.
If starting in the middle of the grid, hang back to avoid the inevitable first corner mayhem!

Your turn & I will come back & clean this up as & when.

8. If at first you can't tune, use a tuning calculator http://forums.forzamotorsport.net/forums/thread/3073197.aspx

I swear by the thing, it might not be as perfect as some of the ones you can buy, but it gives you a damn good start which you can tweak to something very nice.

Also check the leader boards if you want to know which cars are the most competitive and i think you might be able to download some of the top drivers tunes while you're at it.

Not a racing tip but if you want money fast and can't paint or tune start an online race with 7 AI cars set to hard, everything on simulation no traction, abs etc, get in an R1 car, set the track to benchmark ring A and race round the inside of the track as close as you can to the barrier, almost 100k for 18 mins of "racing".

Don't rely on the "stat bars" too much (e.g. Handling 5.6, Speed 7.0 etc) as they are often not a fair reflection of the cars actual capability, drive the car and work out which one you are fastest in.

I have some cars that are rated about 5.0 for handling which can turn in and corner infinitely better than a car on racing slicks with a 6.0 rating for example due to having a better setup!

there is a forza tuning app for the iphone that is very good with giving you full setups.

For £1.19, it's worth it, just started tinkering with it as I still havent really explored the tuning setups (which I know make a difference)

Sounds silly/obvious, but smooth on the throttle when exiting a corner...

I use this one (which Eyerex posted up somewhere) on a small secondary LCD screen. As there's no Windows Mobile app.

Since I have the wheel in place of the keyboard it's handy for mouse only use.

I use it mostly for the suspension settings. The Alignment section is the most inaccurate with 1 degree of negative camber it seems to constantly recommend. Most cars seem to ride on their tyre inners with cooler outers and mids on this setting. The aero it a bit of guess work too, but better than nowt. Brake force seems better at 100%.

Don't accelerate, then brake, then accelerate through corners, brake before the corner in a straight line, then apply the accelerator at a point that you don't have to take it off again until braking for the next corner.

Brake, accelerate, brake, accelerate will mess your lap times up. Just keep it smooth.

Good tip this. Once you know what speed to take corners, you can slow enough so that you can accelerate out without letting off. However, I'm fine at this when I'm in the lead, but if I'm chasing the pack (as I often am) then I invariably take the corners too fast and go far too wide, resulting in excessive braking!

When tuning, do NOT just go power power power and assume everything will be fine, make sure to look at your suspension, brakes, transmission, tires and weight, looking after these on top will give much better performance than sheer power.

If you're a long time auto driver, learn to drive manual in the game, start with a smaller lower class car, work your way up so you feel you have your gear timings right and you'll have so much more input into the game and have much faster laps!

if you're in 2nd place in an online race and the leader spins out on the final corner, apply handbrake as you go past ;)

Turn off traction control, once you maste throttle and brake control with it off, you will be flying, shaved seconds off my lap times :)

but dont play it anymore.

Use a pink nissan verso with 700bhp when racing Malc and he will get so distracted by shouting abuse he will run wide at every other corner.

:D
