Forza 4

So they've made the 'Ring look really dull with cloudy weather again, I was hoping they would make it a little more interesting to drive around. It's depressing going around it in FM3 :p

WTF at the ending? He shot past him as though the leader had just given up and taken his foot off the pedal.

Please tell me they haven't put rubber banding on!

Probably worth checking the top speeds of each of the cars. I had a feeling that might happen, as the Zonda was constantly catching the other car, so clearly the acceleration is present. The Zonda hit 200 by the end of the straight, so worth comparing that to the other car - if the other guy's top speed is only 180 then it would make sense.

However... One of the reviews I'd read did refer to rubber banding. I dismissed at the time as an error on the part of the reviewer, so I'll be intrigued to see what other people say about it. I think it was the eurogamer review where I saw that.

Radical SR8's top speed is listed at around 170MPH so it make sense.

(I think that's what it was?)

My concern is that was an 8.00 minute lap of the Ring, whereas the Zonda R in real life clocked 6.47 (admittedly a flying lap - so lets add 10 seconds or so for sake of argument)

Given that the driver in the video clearly isn't hanging about I'm inclined to think that either him and his opponents are over a minute slower around the ring than a professional racing driver, or (much more likely) we still have the same track from FM3 which is 2 miles longer than the real one.

I'm pretty sure all the crunching in the corners doesn't help either...

I also saw that, but don't think too much about it!

The AI in forza uses drivatar, they are driving the cars within the same limits we would..

In FM3, in lower AI difficulties, they would limit the max throttle opening to make them slower on the straights, but in FM4, they have full throttle on the straights, but slow down in corners, and are bound by the same physics rules as you..

It is more likely a top speed differential as you said, this looks like rubber banding because some cars will catch you easily on long straights, but then you get away on the corners, that's not rubber banding in the sense it's artificially affecting physics to make the AI catch up or anything..

I know they artificially widened it in places to allow MP racing etc, but I didn't know they'd made it longer!! Does the car's odometer/race distance show this? Or is it the wider track giving the impression it's longer?

Here's the Fxx comparison between real life and FM3, it doesn't seem to be massively out by 2 miles.. ??

Hi Demon

yes the odometer does show it - take a new car around the ring exactly 1 lap and instead of 12.9 miles it logs a distance of 15 miles. I read somewere that the track was upscaled by 10% for the benefit of multiplayer racing, not sure of how valid that is, but I've never succeeded in achieving anwhere near the real life performance times.

That lap by the Zonda was terrible, so please don't go by the 8 minute lap time.

I never knew that about the ring being longer in forza though. They look to have made a few changes like making it a bumpier track, so lets hope they sorted the length too.

Bought the Fanatec CSR and Elite pedals last night btw. It's going to be crappy presents for the family this xmas :D

I managed a certified 6:49 using a stock Zonda R in Forza 3 and I'm by no means the quickest guy out there. A mate of mine who is a bit quick knocked over 10 seconds off that time.

The track certainly looks to be the same layout as F3. Anyway it's a game, not a 100% accurate racing sim. Go lobby for the 'ring to be added into iRacing if that floats your boat.

I tried beating you time on Rivals last night... couldn't get anywhere near it :p

Try harder, I have been dipping into the 1.39's on the BMW rivals challenge but making the odd mistake in doing so invalidating the lap time. Still having difficulty taming the Zonda though.

My biggest gripe with the whole penalty for drafting is that the large majority of my quickest laps are set on either multiplayer or career races. I don't have a great deal of time or enjoy blatting around on time trial. As I understand it the big issue with the leaderboards in Forza 2 was bump drafting which is solved by giving a penalty for contact. Getting a penalty just because you cross the path or come up behind the car infront is not needed. I know its not going to change but it still grinds my gears :)

Just got this from Game..

Dear Tim,

Thank you for preordering Forza Motorsport 4 from GAME.co.uk

Due to the epic size of Forza Motorsport 4 we have a lot to do to make sure it gets to
you in time for launch day. As a result, we will be processing your order and charging your
payment card a little earlier than usual.

You may receive an email informing you that your order has been cancelled.
If your order has been cancelled please place a new order on our site.

Etc..

Better not get mine cancelled! :o

I pre-ordered in store, so I'll be collecting it in person... There'll be hell to pay if it's not there for me, especially after they've taken a £5 deposit to ward off people who pre-order and the being turn up!
