GT5 looks pretty. It's like seeing some really really hot girl in a club, strike up a conversation with her and she's as dull as dishwater.

The handing on the cars is ok, the sounds sound like nothing like the cars they represent, the AI is crap (driving round the track all together in a procession, yawwwn!) etc.

The flaws I've mentioned, Forza 4 does it a whole lot better and it's a lot more fun!

And I was a die hard GT fan! I loved GT4. Forza is now king.

And to think FM4 was developed in half the time GT5 took, I wonder what Polyphony are thinking right now.

Man, are they running their servers on a potato? I'd just finished year 3 and wanted to have a look in the auction house and at the rivals but nooooo....

I've not got the game, but will be next payday, as always love car games.

BUT...after reading reviews, I can't believe it's got no night time racing, or weather effects.

I remember Lotus esprit turbo on the Amiga. And Metropolis street racing on the dreamcast. Even those had these features.

And it really added to the game, broke up the monotony, made it interesting.

I played Forza 3 and loved it, but it did get stale after a while. I fear the same thing from forza 4.

I hope they add night racing and weather effects via dlc would really complete the game. I like gt5 but there seems to be less grinding in forza and you don't seem to have to go through loads of different menus just to upgrade and tune your car to get ready for the next race

Thanks for the link Magic, interesting read...

They're putting it down to lack of dev time and technology limitations. Hmm.

I just feel, for any car game striving for perfection, night racing and weather effects are a must have inclusion.

Forza 4 isn't completely superior to GT5, there are many aspects where GT5 is superior.

Both the games are very good and both are missing certain things that make you wonder why they aren't there already.

Was great fun playing with folks tonight, shame we only got to do one actual race though! My Soarer was indeed very fast in a straight line, but it's a drift car and with no driving aids I couldn't keep it straight and fast enough, it was all I had at the exact class rating though.

I think the football would be a lot more fun if there were consequences for smashing your car up. That would make it a bit more technical, rather than a game that really resembles a rugby scrum.

Cat and mouse was amusing. I couldn't hear everyone talking very well, but I assume you decided I was a cat being stupid and let me drive off, that was a relaxing drive around the ring (which is noticeably inferior to the GT5 version!).

I'll have to actually get some cars upgraded to the class limits now, haven't done any class tuning like that yet.

It is now a 6 year old console. Frankly I think T10 have done a stunning job given the hardware available.

Night racing and weather effects would be nice, but I'd rather they were done properly. I've never been a fan of the GT5 approach to weather - the frame rates drops noticeably which affects gameplay.

I'm not going to get involved in a GT vs Forza discussion. Suffice to say I bought a PS3 for GT5 and was ... disappointed, more so because I'd played all the previous games a lot. At least I got a Blu-Ray player out of it (and some free games for PSN going offline for weeks).

I started playing Forza 2 when someone offered me a cheap 360 during the interminable delays for a PS3 version of GT. I didn't expect to like it but was converted over very quickly. GT5 might be more technically impressive, however in my experience Forza is more ... fun. The package as a whole with the community, painting and tuning plus the slickness of XBL blows away any perceived technical advantage GT5 or the PS3 has.

I posted this on the previous page, but here it is again...

FM4 at metacritic - 91%.
GT5 at metacritic - 84%.

That is a substantial difference for such flagship games.

There's a series of four articles on the Forza website outlining why the developers made certain decisions and answering common questions from the community including the night racing. Take a look at number 2.

These are a great read.

It's interesting to see why decisions are made, how technology affects things, how their understanding of how people play the game affects how they make the game, and so on. It actually reminds me of some of the dev commentary from Valve in Portal 2, where you really get the impression that they tested everything to make sure that it worked and that it was fun.
